2005 tacoma speaker replacement????

im lookin to replace the stock speakers in my 2005 tacoma double cab. i have an alpine iva-d300 as my deck i do not plan to add an amp to power the door speakers. i just want a simple swap nice and simple.

so far i am getting coaxials becuase they are pretty much plug and play easy to install

shuld i get JL Audio MB Quart or Alpine or any other good brand thats not too expensive please give your input it would be much appreciated.

If you want to go the coaxial route, Boston Acoustics makes a great set. Word has it that Polk dBs aren't bad either. But out've the ones you listed, I'd rank 'em as JL = Quart >> Alpine. It's pretty much a toss-up between the JLs and the Quarts simply due to the fact that you can only do so well with coaxials. You'll always have roll-off and that "muddy/mixed sound".

You sure you don't want to add in a separate amp to drive your speakers?? Long long time away (when I was 15...), I used to have coaxes powered by my HU and to be honest, it sounded like a monkey taking a shit. From what I understand/remember, you have some pretty good equipment in your truck -- so why compromise the overall quality of your setup with coaxials??

In a nutshell: I'd look to get a 2-channel amp (possibly a 4 channel with onboard x-overs if you want to run an active setup) and some components.

can i go with components without buying an amp just running them off the head unit but the thing is components are harder to install they come with crossovers and where do i put those how about some zr or xr coaxials if they exist maybe ill go with those boston acoustics. another question the tacoma i belive already comes with components if i disconnect the tweeter will the 6x9 get full range sound???

You can, but they'll sound much better being powered by an amp.

You can stash them in the doors (behind the door panels) or underneath the dash.

I stashed mine under the dash.

Generally, 6x9s will put out more bass because they have more cone surface area, but they will not be as clean and accurate as a good round 6.5". Plus most 6.5" component sets have a much higher standard of build, quality, crossover, excursion, and power handling than all the flashy 6x9s with 17 tweeters mounted in the middle.

A good set of properly installed 6.5" components will sound much better and probably put out more bass than the stock 6x9s. Especially if you add an amp.
