new system install help

hey,

just got my new system intalled in my camry.

i have a xplode amp, running one infinity 10inch. when i crank up the volume the cd is either skipping or the music is cutting in and out. unsure which one it is. i have a jvc aftermarket deck. the installer said my deck pre outs can't handle the amp. is this true. he says that sony amps draw more power from the HU than other amps. is this correct. i have a buddy who is running an mtx amp and sub with a similar jvc HU with no probls. pls help. i just want to listen to some descent bass

that is the amp for your sub, correct? if so, turn ON the LPF and set it between 60 and 110Hz, depending on your preference. turn OFF all bass boost. to set your gains, turn the gain pot all the way down(counterclockwise), and turn your HU up 3/4 the way up. slowly turn the gain pot up until your sub starts to distort, then turn the gain pot down a little and you are good to go. do you also have a separate amp for your regular speakers or are you running that off of your HU?

all of that is correct, sorry, some amps are labeled differently. But what he told you is correct, so try that out. Do your best not to use bass boost, it will lengten the life of everything.

But your preouts.. are fine... the installer is wrong, something else is making it clip.

You're amp is clipping. Set the gains properly. Read the ultimate audio sticky on this forum and check out the gain-setting tutorial.
