Alright. My dad has a 2002 Toyota Sienna minivan with the JBL sound system in it. The passenger side front speaker is rattling REALLY bad. What I'd like to know is if I can just buy a regular mid-range driver and install it in that spot. Or will I need to replace it with a full blown component system.
I REALLY would rather just change out the damaged speaker as cheaply as possible. I wasn't sure if there was a passive crossover in the door, similar to the component systems you can buy.
I believe they are two or three ohm mids. It's probably just best to replace it with another factory JBL speaker. Should be easy to find on ebay. What size is it?
yea the only way to fix your problem without replacing everything and rewiring the jbl amp for an aftermarket HU, get a factory replacement from the dealer (probably not cheap) or online .. ebay or something(much cheaper)
I'm tearing it up this weekend, but I'm pretty positive its the 6.5" oversize speaker they have . I also did some hunting around and found out its a 2ohm speaker. There are some Infinity co-axials that are 2ohm. Think they'll work? They run about $100 for the pair, and the stealership wants $299.99 for ONE speaker
Check out www.solaraguy.org There is usually one of those speakers on the market. I think last time I looked our own JHBatia was selling some. He might still have them.
If it's an oversized 6.5" speaker, then you should be able to get them from any camry/solara with the JBL system.
You might want to post a want to buy ad in both forums.
Not sure how the Infinities will work out, but if you do go that route, then definitely change both of them.
if your just replacing that one speaker and your dad or whoever uses it most enjoys their music, its best to get the same speakers, at least the same pair. so if you dont go jbl, change both speakers, otherwise things get funky on you. i did a test before i swapped out both my spakers on my camry....things were just unbalanced and i prefered the blown out speaker. Also if one speaker went, the otherone might be on its way out, esp if loud music is played /deep bass.

The JBL front speakers are 6.5", 2.2 ohm and 30 Watt

Up to you though.
Oh, replacing one side was only an option if someone had the stock speaker laying around. Otherwise I'd just get a pair of the 2ohm Infinity's and call it a day.
Ah I see. And Just make sure you dont get a pair of 100 watt speakers cos your headunit probably will underpower those. My camry now has all Alpine type s speakers and they really are great. But infinity owns most other brands anyways. So go for those. 30-50 watt is okay.

I was thinkng about those, since they were the most inexpensive 2ohm speakers I could find. The site says they'll play with as little as 2watts. I hope they work
