I got two Alpine Type E 12s for a hundred dollars (buy one get one free). They might not be the top of the line, but so far, I feel that they are far from bad. Only had them going for a week, but they sound great and everyone likes riding in my car now.
Just because you pay more, doesn't mean you get more, but on the flip side, you do generally get what you pay for. Every now and then, however, you can find some good deals!

You should check out a Best Buy...
sometimes I walk through there at work and I go "WTF? Insignia...?!"
It's a Best Buy brand.... Looks like a blatant rip off of newer-gen Alpine...
WalMart = Lightning Audio, Durabrand, RoadMaster, and some kind of crappy construction paper speakers in plastic.
Best Buy = DUAL
Circuit City= Jensen
Every place has shitty shitty shit to counter balance the good stuff. Yep. There arent many places you can get fine qualities like that yep.....Good stuff.
However i do have to say the RoadMaster 6x9s i had in my car for a few months Sounded great and worked perfect although the bass was terrible.
