My HU, Eclipse 8454 has been acting weird lately. Earlier this week, the unit "froze" and it would not do anything. I could open the face, but then it would not close. The CD player would not play but I could get the radio on, but couldn't change volume or frequency. The only solution was to reset the system by pressing the little recessed button.
I thought that occurence was a fluke, but it just did it twice today and it's getting a bit annoying. The only common thing between the incidents was that there as a burned Fuji (Taiyo Yuden) audio CDinside. The car was shut off while the CD was playing and then it would freeze when the car was started back up.
I tried pressed CDs and Verbatim CD-RWs and I still have the same problem. Unfortunately the failure is intermitent so I dunno what can really be done with it.
I bought it off a car audio shop that sells on eBay and they gave me a 90 day warranty. They gave me an RMA number and they'll send it out for repair. I guess no tunes in the car for a while.
BTW, I dunno how knowledgable you are about CD and DVD media, but Taiyo Yuden (TY for short) makes probably the best discs that you can buy. They are usually bought and resold by different companies though, so the discs are somewhat unlikely to have problems, other than perhaps incompatibility with the drives. Ritek, CMC Magnetics, and other no names are usually more incompatible and have more problems.

Well unfortunately Eclipse doesn't really have the best build quality. I've been told that they use cheap sony lasers. (Mostly all headunit companies use Sony lasers, but Eclipse uses cheaper sony lasers than everyone else)
Hopefully you can get it fixed and it won't happen in the future.
I sent just the bare HU back to the dealer a couple weeks ago for warranty reapair. I just got a email from them with the tracking numbef for the return package. The weight of the package is 1.5pounds more than what I sent them. Wonder if they sent me a new complete one...1.5 pounds is more than just a larger box and peanuts...
6.2 lbs doesn't sound like a generic number though. The package I sent weighed 4 lb 8 oz according to the scale at the post office.
I'll see on Tuesday. But what ever the case, I'll be happy to get it back. Better than the Kenwood one I'm using now. The only thing I don't like about the Eclipse the the damn NOB remote. That turn dial thing is rediculous.
