Cool Poor-man's GPS.

Just yesterday I finally got hold of the new navigation software - Destinator PN for Pocket PC. Program response time/route calculation is very fast, much faster than my old Ipaq 3870. It also support landscape viewing. I'm using HP Ipaq HX4700 with Holux Bluetooth GPS.

Here's a cleaner shot, taken in underground parking. Hence the "Acquiring Satellite..." message.

One more function an Ipaq can do besides watching movies, surf the web, MSN and Skype...

Not quite sure why this is "poor-man's GPS"....

Works great if you ask me and doesn't leave a $2,000 hole in your wallet.

What exactly do you need to run GPS via PDA in a car?

My GPS system currently is my IBM Thinkpad, a laptop computer, and it's quite cumbersome since it has to sit in the passenger seat and weighs about 5 pounds. Also I have to hide it every time I leave the car if I don't want to carry it around. It gets the job done though.

I have a Bluetooth GPS unit, so I just throw that on top of the dashboard right under the front windshield and let it sit there. It's smaller than size of a phone and the battery last for 8-9 hours.

I got a vent holder for my PDA from ebay. And my Ipaq's battery can last for hours before recharging so I just let it run on battery.

No wires, no mess.
