Can I connect factory 15-pin unit to older double?

Hello all,

I have a 95 corrola and just bought a Factory Toyota CD unit at a garage sale for 5 dollars and would like to install it in the car.

The problem is that the connectors are different on the harness. The car has the typical two connectors but the CD unit has a single plug-in. I don't have the harness that plugs into the factory unit, so I went looking for one at some car audio stores and one salesman told me that it was impossible to make the unit work in my car because it needed to be in a car with built-in amplifier.

Have I wasted my five dollars or is there a way to make this unit work in my car? I like the fact that the factory toyota stereo lines up perfectly and looks good in my car and would like to make this work.

Thanks,
Paul.

Welcome to TN Paul. If it is a unit that requires the external amp(I think it is) then you're going to have to get that external amp, and the big wiring harness. It's a pain in the ass.

One popular thing people like to do to replace their stock tape players/radios, is to get the unit's from the Scions. They are made by pioneer, play mp3, and they plug right into your stock wiring.

You can pick one of these up for about 65 bucks.
