Canada 04 Corolla Speaker Removal

Hi everybody. It is my first time posting here and have done a lot of looking in the threads to see if this has been adressed before hand, but it appears it hasn't. I just bought some new JL TRs for my 04 Corolla. They are 6.5"s and 6x9"s for the rear. I don't know how to get at the speakers. Any advice on how to install them? I don't want to spend something like $100 for an install when I can do it myself. Will putting some sound-deadening into the door panel improve soundstaging and reduce noise exiting the vehicle significantly?

Thanks

I did a quick search through the Corolla section and saw this post.

http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t81654.html

It appears that Toyota has decided to rivet in the stock speaker baffle.

What I would do it drill out the rivets, then trace the speaker baffle onto a sheet of MDF wood and make a new mounting baffle out of much sturdier MDF wood.

I'll see if I can find a link that explains how to get the door panels and rear deck off too...

Thanks a lot for the quick response. I am kinda thinkin that taking my car to the place where I bought the speakers (A&B Sound) would be a good idea. They have told me they installed speakers in an 03'+ Corolla before. Sounds like doing this install would be a real pain in the ass... I don't plan on breaking anything in my car... Thanks again

It's never easy, but it will teach you useful info.

If you have a shop install them for you, make sure they make an mdf wood baffle, and see if you can watch them take off the door panels and installation. That way in the future if you decide to upgrade, or sound deaden, you'll be ready for both.

Would the baffle for my speakers simply go underneath the rear plastic deck of the car? How worth while would you think a dedicated 4-channel amp would be for my system? I have a new Alpine deck with mp3/wma/xm (it is the motorized faceplate model).

The MDF baffle would replace the stock plastic baffle. It will be mounted to the door.

It's always worth it to use a stronger amp. If you are going to do that, I'd rec. Components over coaxials.

Thanks a lot for the info. The TRs are components however they will ultimately be mounted like coaxials. I have an appointment for thursday which is a good time considerring how busy they usually are (it usually takes a month or so for an appointment at A&B Sound). I will let you know how it goes.

The rear 6x9s have been mounted successfully! Holy cr*p is there an improvement in sound. I'm not getting that same boomy sound that I got with my stock paper coners but that's a great trade-off No cutting was needed and now things are lookin sweet. A nice JL W7 8 is goin in the trunk

Did you get the fronts changed too?
How much did A&B charge you? The one near the U of M tried to rip my friend off really bad on an install.

My system got installed in the one on Pembina too.

How so? Did either Chris or Warren install it? Chris did my install, as well as my friend's Escalade (white, 20" boss rims). He got 2 15" DD subs installed and 2 visonek amps (crap). I am getting the JL TR 6.5s installed in the front on thursday.

They charged me 200 for the fronts and 160 for the rear 6x9s. I was charged 163 in total for the install of fronts and rears.

Is your car by any chance forest green with altezza lights?
