I think motion detectors and flood lights are still a good idea. Even if the racoons set them off, who cares? I think a theif would be scared of a 1000 watts of light shining down on them.

Here's what you do. Get some motion sensing, infra-red cameras, place them around the barn, have them hooked up to a monitor so you can tell when it's an animal or the perps. Have some way being alerted when the cameras are activated. Get your armorment on with some night vision goggles and have fun!
