Sorry if this was posted earlier, but i looked around and didn't see anything. There are increasing reports of catalitic converters being cut and stolen from trucks. Mainly from Toyota trucks. The platinum and other precious metals in them can be sold in junk yards for $80.00 each and up.
Ive heard of it but havent seen any cases yet. That would be a hell of a lot of work, time, and noise to saw off a converter while your squezed under there with limited arm space. Guess people are desperate enuff to try anything tho. We have a guy that comes around the shop once in a while to collect the old ones we change, says he gets a pretty good price for them.
at least in ohio, used cats (any used piece from the emissions part of the car) cannot be sold. the yards ive been to have mountains of used cat converters rusting into the ground.

oh and cats for the v8 4.7 engines.. cost alot.. i heard it was somewhere over a grand for each cat
I'm not sure about this, but I do know that for the high end cars (BMW/Benz) have Rhodium in their cats. This stuff is better than plat. Plat I think goes for $1,000 an ounce and Rhodium goes for $5,000.
^Yeah. This was a huge problem in MN. It still is a big problem, but now that it's harder to sell Cats, I think the problem has subsided (at lest the news hasn't been reporting it as much).
Stealing cat converters....Why don't they just part out your car right in your driveway?
There was a wave of airbag stealings in Toronto not to long ago and as the guy in the airbag thread stated, it's just getting weirder.
