My grey 2009 V6 AWD was stolen last night from my driveway in Toronto. It was locked and armed which, combined with the lack of evidence, suggests that it was hitched. It had a Yakima roof rack on top with four bike attachments. License 151RKT. It's with the insurance company now, so we'll see what happens next.

Sorry to hear that. Sucks to hear stories like that especially if it was on your driveway.
Look on the bright side. If it is lost you can get a 2010 that will have usb, bluetooth audio and calling standard.

I'm sorry to hear that too. I really hope you get it back. Hopefully the thieves will get what's coming to them. In the meantime, feel free to post a thread in the 'Neighborhood Watch' forum here at TN, just on the odd chance that someone might have seen and/or heard something. Good luck!!!

Sorry to hear of the lousy luck with the thieves. It's entirely possible you do not want it back if found trashed. Is it just me or is there a car theft problem in Canada?

They found the car in a hotel parking lot apparently undamaged. I pick it up today from the Police lot. It was armed with the standard Toyota system which meant no shock sensor. So if it's towed, nothing happens. I'll think I'll get one now. Thanks for the support guys!

Great to hear that they found it! Let us know if you notice anything different when you get it back.

No, it doesn't. I haven't actually seen the car yet - it's still in the police lot. I'm holding off on the insurance closure util I actually see the car and drive it.
I got the car back today. Here's some more information:
The car wouldn't start at the police yard. I had all the keys at home and when we tried, it wouldn't go. We had to take it to the dealer for the theft system to be reprogrammed. That and a check over cost $272 plus tax. I guess the theif had some master key or something to get the car only a few KM's, then it died. Strange.
I asked if adding a second, motion security system would void the warrantly and they said yes. I don't understand this one: I'm spending my own money making their car (it's leased) more secure, and they said no.

Toyota doesn't really care if the car is stolen, because it is in their best interest that the car IS stolen. Then, the insurance has to pay for another car, so it is another sale for Toyota... Especially if the car is sent overseas.
But check with your insurer. After my first Venza got stolen, the insurer forced me to put a secondary engine immobilizer, and they paid for it.
However, installing another security system must/should not void the warranty. It is just an excuse for Toyota to deny coverage and blame it on the newly installed system. But then people who install the anti-theft device should warrant their work. You may have to go back and forth between the 2 guys, but at some point the problem will be found and then you can send the bill to whoever is at fault. (That's a lot of trouble...)
An easier thing to do is: Always park close to another car or obstable, turn the front wheel all the way to the left or right so the car can't be pulled out of the parking without damaging it, always use the parking brake, add a steering wheel lock and cover your VIN. This will not protect your car from somebody who really wants it, but it will only make it less attractive to steal than another Venza.
Don't forget that a thief is fondamentally somebody lazy: he'd rather steal than do actual work to get something...
