Canada Venza 2009 V6 AWD Red Barcelona stolen

During the night my Venza was stolen from my driveway . It is the second time that a red barcelona color is stolen and annouced on this forum. I need to contact the insurance to see what can they do. I want an other Venza but it will not be red. Do some of you know an efficient anti-theft ?

My best anti-theft is to keep the Venza in the garage at night. Thiefs would have to defeat the home alarm before they can look at the car...

Talk to Desjardins (or La personnelle if you are a member of one of the 560 groups that have access to La Personelle). They have an anti-theft system (ie a thief retardent) that is independant of the Toyota anti theft.

Also to do:
-Cover your VIN in your dash so thief can't use that number to get a working key before breaking in your car.
-Always turn your steering wheel to the maximal left or right position, as such a ways that if somebody pulls your car (onto a towing) is will turn and smash something hard (house, tree, another car) and be damaged.
-Always put on the parking brake when parked.
-Use a steering wheel lock.

None of this will really stop a thief that needs your car, but it will annoy the thief and they may want to steal another easier car instead.

Locking the wheels on the left or right direction is a brilliant idea.

Do u know if covering the vin # illegal or not? I heard that cops will think it's a stolen car or somthing like that. I've been wanting to do this for a while now.

In Vegas, they have this program where you put a sticker on your rear window and if the cop sees a car with that sticker being driven between 1 am-5 am, they pull you over to make sure the car is not stolen. Not very smart to do if you work graveyard shift or if it's your only car but it's another security to prevent theft since most of them happen late at night. Planning to do that once I move there.

I use an innocently placed parking stub or business card to hide the VIN.

Don't the person need proof of ownership for the vehicle instead of just showing up with the VIN? That's stupid if they don't have to show ownership, like a copy of the title or something.

Best thing to do is to put an alarm on the car. Viper, Clifford, etc. just to name a few alarm companies I know of. You can also get Lo-Jack which can track down where your car is. But this is all US-based, not sure about Canada.

The program is not only for Vegas, it's a national thing. It's called the WATCH YOUR CAR program. Cop can pull the WYC registered vehicle over to check to see who's driving it. I normally drive at any given time, so that'll be a hassle for me to get pulled over then the officer decides to ticket me, the owner, for something... know they would.
