Sorry to hear that. since it was already running may be they will take it for a joy ride and just park it. That kind of stuff happens in Canada?
Sorry to hear that Boggs, I've heard locally that the docks here in Delta/Vancouver have intercepted the occasional car being transported in an empty container right off the train from central Canada. Use to be that near empty containers were difficult to spot from the empty ones.
Hope that your Insurers spring for replacement cost?
Regards!

I would never leave my car running and walk away. Sorry for your loss.
I do in the morning to warm it up. Thanks to Toyota's (not) brilliant idea that you can't lock one key in the car with the other, I have to leave it unlocked. I don't have a garage and when it's 15 below zero I have no choice but to warm it up before I leave.

Don't do it man. It was -14 when I went out to start my car.... we have similar weather. I feel like someone was waiting for me to do this. They knew about the Venza not being able to lock when running.
Next Venza, I will sit in my car until it is warm....
Besides, if you check with any automotive expert, they'll tell you that you'll save wear and tear on the engine & warm-up faster if you simply drive off within 30 to 60 seconds. (not to mention the waste of fuel)

^I have a manual trans Camry and because (I'm pretty sure) the gear oil is too thick for cold climates, if I don't let it warm up, EVERY SINGLE GEAR will GRIND no matter how gently I drive it.
That being said, I'm sorry for the loss of your Venza. That's really crappy. The person who stole it is a pretty big d-bag.

Easier said then done when you aren't the one holding the 10 degree steering wheel and looking through frozen windows.
That is really creepy that people are waiting around in the freezing morning for someone to walk away from their car...sorry for your loss Boggs. I hope they catch the creep and lock him up.

^ I'm jealous. Here in southern WI it's just below 0 degrees F and with windchill it's closer to 20 below zero F.
And I don't drive far enough to work (7 miles) to get the car warm enough on top of it all. lol

Ah, but I am. Right now outside my window it's -12C/10F.
I'll give you that in your case, I was refering more to the "automotive expert" that stated the obvious. I have a garage so no worries, but to those that don't, they need to at least defrost the windows which takes way longer then 60 seconds.

yep, I agree.
I live in a suburb. No one on my street can believe that it happened. I have been starting cars and trucks in my driveway for 20 years without a problem.
Those days are over.
