Seriously Considering xD....

I own a 2000 Echo right now which I am prepping to sell and when I left my Auto class yesterday one was parked in the shop area and really caught my eye. Ive looked at scion.com and built one and all that fun stuff but my real concern is size. I have enough legroom in my Echo, front to rear that is, but if I merely put my hand flat on my knee the back of my hand is pushed up against the sterring wheel. Plus i hated riding in my ex girlfriends xA cuz I didnt have enough front to rear. Is anyone else hear who actually owns one about 6' tall and can answer that one for me?

Also I have read on another thread that it has a NEW 1.8 "Similar to the Corolla" and I also noticed that it has "Dual VVT-i", I know what VVT-i is but what is the difference? Anybody? Thanks in advance for any insight.

The xD is larger then the xA. Really until you drive one, it will be hard to see what you really think just by what we say.

Dual VVT-i on the other hand, I can tell you about.
On a car with VVT-i only the intake cam timing can be adjusted. The exhaust cam never moved and it worked just fine.
on Dual VVT-i, there is an adjustable gear on the exhaust cam now as well as the intake cam and they are adjustable independantly. It's supposed to improve efficiancy even further.
The Tundra 5.7V8 has 4 adjustable cam gears(2 per head)

thanks for the info on the Dual VVT-i, before reading this i had come to my own conclusion that it was just and updated term incorporating DOHC with the VVT-i in the same name, guess i was mistaking but thanks though.

I dont know, I guess Im just a Toyota loving freek. I swear that I like every new model that comes from Toyota. I really like the looks of both the new Xd and Xb. I haven't driven either one, but they kind of have that "gangsta" look going on.

The new xB I don't care for but the new xD is nice. I also liked the xA as well. Then again I like hatches. I have an ECHO as well although the 03 model. Anyway if you want utility and versatility the hatch is the way to go, plus you have style. Not to say sedans can't have style but you will be the few Americans that opt for a hatch rather than a traditional "trunk" car. Anyway take a test drive to see what you think. Just think to yourself as you take the test can you see yourself in this car for awhile? Can you see it as a daily driver? Good luck and keep us posted!

I'm looking at a xD for my daughter... when I showed one to her she seemed impressed. I think we'll go and drive one during her college break.

USA I bought an 08 Xd

I bought a silver Xd with autostick. I like the car, and wow!...this car is excellent on fuel. Im getting between 35-38 mpg as an average. Its a nice small car, and people really give me looks because of its spacey lines.

One thing I would like to add as far as the performance of the Xd. I compare the accelleration of my autostick Xd to that of a late model Corolla (05-07) with an autostick, and considering the fuel mileage, it's a fantastic compromise. I like it!

I actually like the xD more than the xB. It's a vast improvement over the xA.
