USA Where is that oil filter location

I just traded my Matrix XRS on an 08 Scion Xd, and I can locate the oil filter on the engine. On most Toyotas they are located right in front of the engine, but I can't find it. Do any of you guys know where the oil filter is located?

On the xD, the filter is a new style paper only filter. It's located in a housing but I'm not entirely sure where since I'm not at work right now. Your Owners manual should give you a location however.

I'll check this thread again tomorrow and if you haven't been able to locate it, I'll find the locaion and let you know.

This morning I put the car up on ramps and grabbed my creeper. I found the oil filter housing on the passenger side, right next to the oil pan. Yep, its a cartridge type of filter. I then drove to Toyota/Scion and bought 2 filter cartridges...$12 for two. I looked on the Wix site, and they don't have a listing for it yet. I also checked Fram's site, and its not listed either, (not that I would buy a Fram). Thanks for the information. What is really neat about the Xd is the fuel mileage...Im getting a consistant 35-38 mpg average in town and a bit out of town driving. At least thats what the car's built-in fuel mileage computer says 35-38 average mpg. The other thing is, since its brand new, Im driving easy for the first 500 miles, and so the fuel mileage is going to be very good. I should say Im driving like a law-biding citizen

USA I did my first oil change today

Today I did the first oil change on my Xd. It was a piece of cake, very easy, not quite as simple as the spin oil filters, but not bad. The car has 976 mile now, and I figured it was time to dump the old oil filter and oil. I'm using the regular dino oil of Castrol GTX 10W30 until the next change, then comes the Mobil 1 synthetic.

Oil Filter 2008 Scion

Hi,
I just bought Scion XD for son (2008) and was looking for oil filter and from your post(s) I think I have learned that the oil filter is a paper filter replacment only? I have never seen one of these. Picling up car in 3 days. I would imagine owners manual describes how to change filter paper. Is it easy? messy? Is it just a matter of unscrewing some type of metal housing and changing the paper element inside? DO you know if anyone sells the paper elements online?

Thank you.

Yeah, here in Florida the temperature tend to be a bit warmer than in most other parts of the country, so I decided to run a slightly high weight dino oil. I double checked with the service advisor at Toyota, and he said that's not a problem at all. It's better to be safe than sorry. Yeah Man!
