neons? do you mean blacklights?
I did that to my excel except no auto on.
I wired the lights to a switch. The switch was wired to the lighter wires.
A friend (electrical engineer) helped out. I used those mats clear mats with the purple tint from Canadian Tire (or Walmart). They work well. If I had a digicam I'd show y'all.
