'07 Toyota starter, cool feature

My salesman never told me and maybe he didn't know it but on both my Toyota's, All you have to do is just touch the "start" part of the ignition switch. You don't have to hold it there. I like that feature.

Keep in mind your not actually cranking the engine anymore the cars computer is. Which is a neat feature untill it has problems. BMW has been doing this for a long time. It turns into an annoying feature when your tryin to bump the starter to get the engine to rotate a little.

My 2005 has the same thing, its not new to the 2007. I think it came along with the "drive by wire" throttle. Some passenger cars now have a Start-Stop button on the dash and all the key does is unlock things. Old is new again. Before the mid-1950's the starter was a separate button.

The good the Bad and the Ugly - computer controlled features are nice to have, when they work - ever been in a late model S or C class mercedes? all kinds of fancy computer cortrolled gadgets - really cool until one breaks. If you have seen the movie "Minority Report" with Tom Cruise you might remember the scene where he is driving his car (a Lexus) and a warrant for his arrest comes across the "net". The car locks the doors and goes to fully auto mode, driving him straight to the cop shop! He has to break the window and jump out onto the freeway to get away from the car. This my friends is what the future holds for us all....
