I just drove my 5.7L from Austin, Tx out to San Diego and I averaged right around 20mpg all the way - even west of Yuma, AZ where I climbed like 4500ft in less than 10miles - never been in a climb like that anywhere in a car on any hwy - it was awesome. Myself and a guy in a silverado denali stayed close to each other doing 70+ all the way to the top - no problems pulling to 80 at any time and never got close to hot with the a/c blasting all the way - though it did heat up a little. The needle moved maybe 5% to the red, that was it - hell I was passing all kinds of cars without a pause and felt like I could outpull the denali if it came to that. At one point a vette went by us both doing at least 85 staight up the mnt.......My Tundra was excellent all 1400+miles and I had just retunred two days before I left for San Diego from a trip up to Oklahoma D-Day (up in the far NE corner of the state) about a 450mi each way trip with no hiccups. I am very pleased with performance/mileage/all around handling on this truck no doubt!!

I have not put enough miles to get a good reading. I will post as soon as I do. When these guys are saying average mpg. Are they going off the meter or are they going off the gallons used at fill up? What I have understood is the meter is fairly close. If it is I am getting 15.2 mpg all in the city with my 5.7 L crewmax 4x4. with less than 500 miles on it.
I'm getting 15 city, and 20 on highway. I also drive like grandma. I've been training myself to be gentler on the gas pedal, and it seems to be working.
I get about 18 on steep crooked WNC mountain roads, when I take to flatter highways I get about 20. And I gun it must of the time! So its very good my old v6 ranger only got about 18 and it was weaker than my Yaris!

Why on earth do you wanna drive like a grandma when you have 381hp under the hood??
Yeah, gun it!!!!!!! COming home from work today I always climb this very steep hill, we were waiting for the light to change and it hit green I look around no cops I gun up the hill in a flash in the BIG T passed a ford 150 and a dodge 1500 and said to them Be Hold The Power of the Big T !!!!!! I was going 90 in just a few sec's. Passed a jeep to, the truck is so fast its un freaking real!!!!! Yeah I didn't get as good mileage, but I need to show those guys what the Big T can do. They were granny footing around and I smoked em Lots of fun. THen this crazy Indian guy wanted to race on 74 near a know cop trap and I was like no dude, I could blast your chevy right here, but not worth the ticket. And guess what? THe cops were there hiding behind the bridge, we would have been busted so becareful when racing your Big T we don't want tickets that would suck!
How ever, I do see your point to, the Big T can get a man in trouble, we must remember that the freeway and highway whatever are not the Daytona race way And if we do go 60 or 65 sometimes 55 no I can't drive 55 as Sammy H sings. When I have put the T in the laws of the land and went 60 to 65 I have gotton better gas mileage but its much much more phone to Gun it!!!!!
Guys enjoy your ride, how ever you drive like granny or like Mike Skinner make your Big T shine!
A Yaris can streetrace? Against what, a Honda Insight?
Nope, I ain't street racing, I do gun the car (just by myself, not racing anybody) once in a while, but freaking cops will most likely see it differently.
You'll be surprise that the Yaris isn't as slow as most people might think.
