After purchasing a new truck every year since 1977 I have owned several of the big three's trucks. I finaly purchased my first Toyota, 07 Tundra crew max TRD 4x4 5.7L. I can't tell you how impressed I am with this truck. It pretty much puts the big 3 to shame in my eyes. The fit and finish is second to nun on these trucks. The power of the 5.7 is breath taking to say the least. I hope the mpg is as good as all the other things the truck has to offer. So far I am more than impressed and hope it continues.

"It pretty much puts the big 3 to shame in my eyes."...I feel it's a little early in the Tundra game to be pissing on the Big-3 at this time. Ford is still the best 1/2 Ton out there.
The test of time will tell for sure or...what boo-boo's/changes are made to the Tundras for 2008 and 09.
Congrats on the new Tundra...but don't you think the Dash/Guage Cluster is a bit cheap looking with all that plastic ?
Not looking to flame Toyota's 1/2 Ton Truck efforts, and I still could very well be an owner for 08-09. The Diesel will be in most if not all the 1/2 Ton Trucks for 09...the F150 Ford(diesel) will be a tough one for me to pass on but...a Diesel in the 09 Tundra-Diesel may also get my hard earned money.
The problem is...I want a new Truck NOW!

It dosn't matter if ford is the top 1/2 seller. I have owned them and I like the Toyota better. I will say it again. I like the Toyota better than the ford "period". I do not purchase a vehicle because it is the #1 seller. I purchase it because I hope the truck fits my needs not because someone else thinks I should own it. If it does not work out I will own something diff. I had my 06 truck for 7 months before I found the Toyota to my liking. My dad always told me. Do not keep um long enough to fall in love with um. I guess you pretty much got it figured out. I buy what I want when I want.

That's good if you can get a new Truck every year or couple of years...I personally can't absorb that kind of loss through deprecation every couple years so, my Truck must last me a looooog time before I'll pull +-$40K out of my pocket for another one.
Like I said prior...the Tundra will have to pass the test of time. The F150 has been the best selling 1/2 Ton Truck for some 30 years...that there means something.

Much luck with your Tundra.
IMO if the Tundra has the capabilities you need, its the obvious choice for someone that wants a truck that will last a long time. It may be a completly new truck but if you can go with past perfomance at all, consumer reports says it all for me. While no vehicle is flawless, your chances for long term reliability are definatly better with the Toyota products according to consumer reports. Ive also owned ford, chev, nissan, and toyota and found the same. I'm in the process of trading up from my 05 Tacoma for the 07 Tundra because I need the extra room for my electrical business. At least thats what I told my wife. Truth is that a test drive of the 5.7L blew me away.

I was never a Toyota kind of guy untill my kids talked me into bying a Scion XB. After owning 2 of them for 2 years that is what sent me to the Tundra. After 2 years both of the Scions are as tight and drive the way they left the show room floor. It is a nice feeling knowing that you only have to take it to the shop for there free oil changes. It is way early in the game but I hope the Tunra is as good as the others I have owned. There is one other thing that must come into all of this. RESALE VALUE. I can not believe it took me so long to own a Toyota. The sad thing is I look at all the money that I blew on the others trading every year.

Very true, Toyotas hold there value like a rock. Do you lease or buy...leasing would seem to make more sense if you trade in every year. I get letters all the time from Toyota asking me to trade mine in for a 07 and they will waive the early termination fee. Just a thought.
I too am amazed at the toyota resale value. My 200 tundra 4x4 with 218k is still booking at Edmunds at $8,500 while my 2001 surburan is tanking with each day. Fords (which I like) are no different. I have not bought a brand new truck since 1996 and never thought I would consider it until recently-because of depreciation.
I priced a 07 double cab 4x4 TRD with 4.7 liter from Rice Toyota (see ebay, they are cheap) for $28,213 and that was before the incentives were raised to $3,500 in some areas plus their discount. I could sell my truct and be out only $20k.
I have considered the lease thing. It does not pay for me to lease for only one year. The stinking payments are way too high for my liking. I am a very fortunate guy. My trucks are payed for. That is what enables me to get a new one every year. I just pay the diff and hit the road for another year. That is why the Tundra makes tha most sense to me for now.
Just because someone has been #1 does not mean they make the best product or have the best service. Remember in "Men in Black" when K is explaining what and who he is to future J - he says individual persons are intelligent yes, but people in large numbers (like crowds in NYC as an example the NY cop would understand) are not. They can and are easily fooled and manipulated - they do it all through the movie whenever they need to "falshy thing" a group "...all your questions can be answered by looking directly into the red light here...". When something new comes along that is better the crowds may stick with what they know but individuals will often make wiser choices. This is how new "bests" come to be. Was there always a porche 911? a Busa? a DB9? they all had thier first year once upon a time
I drove and compared a gmc 6L sierra, a chevy LTZ equiped silverado and a ford 5.4L lariat and was pretty much ready to buy the ford (based on costs/looks/discounts - up to 8grand at the time), until I drove the 5.7L tundra - there was no contest with the ford. The sierra was a close second - it cost more but had more features - in the end it came down to whatcha get for the money; the tundra performed better, looked better and was more than 4grand less in cost. Plus I got 3500 off back in April on the Tundra - no 0%financing, but got 4.9% , not bad at all comparably.
Price and compare that is how I buy a vehicle, why I have owned 6 toyotas in the past, my kid drives a maxima, my wife drives a volvo and I own a 98 cobra and just sold an 02 Z28 camaro - so no, I'm not a normal consumer - and very proud of it.

Yea, that's what (I) thought too!
I just sold (finally) my 06 Corolla-S with only 6000 miles on it. It still smelled like new inside, not one door ding, stone chip, etc... flawless!
After a year and 1/2 and lowering the price monthly it finally sold...And I lost thousands! (really)

Just because you lost thousands tell me that you probably paid way to much for it in the first place. A car that does not cost very much has less mark up. If the thing cost $20,000 new I do not know how a person could loose thousands, but then again thousands could be $1000 - $4000. With all the trading I have done I always figured on $3000 - $3500 diff year to year on a similar equiped truck. If you lost as much as your saying on your Corola. I wish I would been there when it was your time to dump it.My 16 year old kid could use a new ride.
