Hey people.....I'm new to this site.I bought a new 07 tundra in April. This is my 6th Toyota.I find the 4.7 has plenty of power ....I am just wondering how much quicker the 5.7 really is.And is it really that much harder on gas.I puposely did not test drive the 5.7 because I was afraid I would like it too much and end up spending the extra money on the 5.7.
From what all the 5.7L owners have attested, the 5.7 really is a lot quicker than the 4.7L. Apparently, depending on driving habits, the 5.7L yields as good if not better fuel economy than the 4.7L, which partly has to do with the 6-speed transmission and the final-gear ratio as well. If you need to tow things, it's highly recommended to opt for the 5.7L.
You're very wise to not test drive the 5.7L, because if you did (like most 5.7L owners here), you'll most likely be addicted to the power and end up spending the extra money to get the 5.7L. It's pretty much like heroin, once you try it, you're hook forever
Aside from my babbling, I'll let actual owners of the 5.7L tell you how it is
I drove from Sudbury to Ottawa(300 miles) and averaged 17.7 mpg.I am told mileage will improve once the truck is broken in.My driving habits include passing everyone I can.....so Maybe I should have got the 5.7........Anyway thaks for the welcome and reply.
I have the 5.7 crewmax 4x4. After using 1/2 tank of fuel I filled at the same pump and was suprised at mpg. It was 16.7 all city driving. I mite add that it only has 500 miles on it and I was babying it to see what the mpg would be. If it gets better with miles. I could see some very good mpg with this truck. Man what a plus whith this much power.

That was the mistake I made...so I bought one!
As my dad said, "I got the itch"

He did, but he didn't "get on it". He told mom that he has the itch..I think he might be ordering up a white reg cab 4x4 with the 5.7 But he hasn't confirmed nor denied that!

According to msm.com the new 07 tundra with the 4.7 liter goes 0-60 in 7.6 seconds. The 5.7 does it in about 6.3. Practically speaking, 1.3 seconds is nothing and 7.6 seconds in a full size truck beats the majority of autos out there and most trucks. Are you happy with the acceleration?
Yah .....I'm really happy with the acceleration.....I can't imagine how happy I would be if I had the 5.7....I guess you could say I have 5.7 envy...From what I am reading the gas mileage is pretty close as well.....
I didn't buy this truck for gas mileage anyway..Thats what the Matrix is for.
The other thing that will be a huge diff between the two engines is the torque. When you hook a trailer to the two you will see a cosiderable diff in power. The bottom line is the 5.7 is the way to go considering the mpg is the same. It just does not make much sense to me to have less power with the same mpg. If I owned a 4.7 I would be hunting a trade very quik. Just my 2 cents. Good luck in what ever you decide.
It would do a lot better if it was loaded down...when I'm not loaded, the traction control kicks in. I have taken of the TC, but then it roasts the tires in 1st and 2n gear, not that I'm complaining

I did a round trip of approx. 300miles to pick up a dual sport motorcycle...empty bed going, 300+ lbs of motorcycle and winddrag coming home and I averaged 18.54MPG. My truck is an '05 DC with a V-8. I did install Bassani dual side exit exhaust after purchase. Perhaps that helped. The trip was mostly highway but had its fair share of traffic and urban roads. I also was made an effort not to go above 65 MPH.
