synthetic oil?

Whats up guys. Newbie here. Bought an 07 white double cab 5.7 about a month ago. Love it. How many of you use synthetic oil and what are the benefits?

Welcome to TN! I would stick to the Dino oil until you break your truck in.

Then use synthetic.

After break in Ive always used synthetic. I know its a huge debate, but when your talking a $45000 truck with $80 tanks of gas every week, a few extra dollars a few times a year is a small price to pay for possible extened engine life. Some say better mpg as well.

I changed my oil out at 900 miles to do the DIY oil change thread for TS (and here). I'm running Mobil1 5W20 Synthetic. No noticable difference from the stock dino oil. Synthetics have proven to be more reliable in breakdown and anti-wear, so I use it. Just make sure you do get the 5W20 or OW20. The engine wasn't designed to run a 30 weight.

From Toyota. I'll find the e-mail and post it.

EDIT: Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.
Please be advised that '07 Tundra 5.7 liter engine is delivered with 0W-20 non-synthetic oil.
As per our Owner's Manual, we recommend either 5W-20 or 0W-20 oil grade viscosity.
We advise consistency regarding choice of synthetic or non-synthetic engine oil; i.e., stay with one type; we do not recommend switching back and forth.
Your feedback is appreciated. It is through comments such as yours that we are able to review and improve our products and services.

Thank you very much. And excuse my ignorance but doesn't GM use Mobil 1 synthetic oil in their Vette's/Cadillacs right out of the factory? What's the difference between this oil and the stuff Toyota is using in the new Tundra line? I'm ignorant about oil but have been using the Mobil 1 synthetic in my car for the last 5 years. 170K and still going strong.

I have never heard of a 0W-anything non-synthetic oil. Ford has recommended 5W-20 for years and there is a wide choice of 5W-20 "conventional" oils that are actually synthetic blends, with the inexpensive Conoco (Motorcraft, TropArctic, 76 and Kendall) and Chevron (Chevron and Havoline) ones giving outstanding results.

The 4.7 is now on a one-year/7500 mile schedule with 5W-30 Havoline synthetic, but I will do used oil analysis to validate.

I haven't heard of any 0 weight non-sythetics either, but apparently its available at my Toyota stealership for $4-5 a quart...I'll stick with 5w20 and run synthetic! I plan on preforming a UOA at the 5k mile mark on this Mobil1 synthetic I have in it now.
