I notice a clunk at around 15mph everytime I start down the road in my 2007 Tundra Crew-Max 5.7L truck. Once it happens it won't reoccur until I turn off the truck and start it again. Toyota suggests it's the ABS system. Sometimes it's quite loud and just doesn't sound right to me. Anybody else hear this?

I would immediately go down to your service department and have them check it out. Most likely they'll tell you some garbage about how it is normal blah, blah, blah, but at least you'll have it documented in your records in case it turns out to be some kind of serious problem down the road. You'll then have proof that you brought the truck in right away, removing the chance that they can say you neglected a recurring problem for too long (which can void warranty repairs).
Does it feel like it could possibly be the transmission?

I assume you're not talking about the power door locks engaging?

It is not the door locks, it feels like it's coming from under the truck. Feels and sounds very similar to the clunk when you switch from 2WD to 4WD, although it is slightly different.
This is news to me. I get a clunk when taking off, like the rear brakes are slow to release or an infamous driveline clunk that seems to be happening on the whole range of Toyota/Lexus's. Regardless, I'd take it to the dealer and show a technician or service manager what the problem is. Hopefully you can replicate the problem while you are there.

I assure you that it is the center bearing in the two piece driveshaft. Mine did the same thing and two dealerships said it was normal. I took mine back to the first dealership and asked them to let me drive a new one. It didn,t clunk and I asked them to put that driveshaft in mine and mine in theirs. Mine is quiet as can be and they ordered a new one for the new truck on their lot. I've been happy every since.
What would explain that it only happens the first time you hit 15mph (from a fresh start)? In order to replicate the problem I have to turn the ignition off completely, then restart the truck, then again get to 15mph. Could it still be the center bearing?
I get the same thing on mine. Only after the engine is started and you hit about 15 mph. There is something of a "clunk" type sound. But its a system doing an adjustment. The manual even mentions it.
Pg 443...
"You may hear a click or motor sound in the engine compartment for a few seconds when the engine is started or just after the vehicle begins to move. This means the anti-lock brake system is in the self-check mode, and does not indicate a malfunction".
The same kind of paragraph appears in the section that describes VSC etc.
If anyone wants to hear this noise, start your engine, lock the doors manually (this eliminates the lock sounds), then start driving. You should hear a "thunk" type sound when you hit about 15 MPH.
I've got over 3500 miles on my Tundra now and its running fine.

I noticed the same noise yesterday and today. I thought it was only when I was making my first left turn. But after today, I realize that that is how I leave my house. I have to make a left turn before I hit 15 mph. For some reason I thought I could even feel the vibration through the foot pedal.
Folks, thank you for the help! That's what I wanted to know, was this happening to other 2007 Tundras out there, sounds like normal behavior. I appreciate all the thoughtful responses.

Yes, I too can feel a very slight click via the pedal too. But I think its just the tranny or brake system doing its self check.

My wife's 2006 Honda CR-V, and my 2007 Tacoma both do this, only once at initial takeoff. It's the ABS system doing a self-check, don't worry about it.
