Depends on your situation.

I got the crew max.. To haul my family and stuff around.
Dont use my truck for work, or alot of towing. It sacrifice bedlength for
cabin room.

If you plan on using your truck as a work truck.. I would get longer bed.

And why would you get a truck and not get the 4x4??

I always had one hilux 4x2, a 2002 model and now a 2006 model.
The reason is that i like to the tours and I would not walk by a rock road with a car but yes with a 4x2.
Here in Argentina, in the south, there are many rock roads, for that reason 4x2 chooses one and I do not do "off road"
if you beams “off road” you would have to choose by one 4x4.
With the 4x2 go on de land, snow, mud and sand; I deflate rubbers to 26 pounds for the rock and mod and 12 pounds for the sand and thus I walk by all land, this way you save the dollars of difference in the price between one 4x4 and one 4x2.

So much easier, to turn a knob: go 4x4
Turn the knob back: 4x2

If you are worried about cost.. buy a Ford.
They are almost giving their cars away.
You can Lease a GM Silverado 4x2 for like 200 a month.

Pardon my Opinion.. a TRUCK isn't a truck unless it can go 4x4.

I know.. 95% of us, never go 4 wheeling, or even go off road.
BUT if there ever is a NEED, its good to know you got what it takes, if need be.

Pardon my analogy:

Buying a full size truck and only getting a 4x2 is, like Dating a OBESE 400lbs chick,
and saying she has a pretty face. Or a chick with BOMB body, but a BUTTER face.

what you say is relative, everything depends on the ability that one has to handle and on the use that him of a the light truck.
Here in the field, one crawls everything, load everything and you accustom yourself is not necessary one 4x4.
I do not like Ford and much less a Cevrolet ha ha ha
