I am looking for a new truck...not to replace my 1986 Toyota 4x4 turbo but to compliment it. I was awaiting Toyota to come out with a larger truck...and now they did...but I have been looking at all the others...Ford, Chevy and Dodge. I realy like the look and size of the Dodge mega cab either in 1500 or 2500...but all I read on their forums are about problems...Now I am back looking at the tundra...and beauce they come standard with side curtian air bags...
Besides the small engine issue...what other issues do the tundra's have?
Mud boy you said it when you said not to replace but compliment, if you're love your current Toy why would you want to consider anything else. I traded in a Titan for the new Tundra and it was a step up, absolutely love it. If you like the mega cab in the Dodge you will love the crewmax. Go for it you won't be sorry.
Yes...I have always been a Toyota fan...and my 21 year old truck is still running great but I need a new one I can go far distances in...and tow etc.
It does look like oil changes in the new tundras are an issue...
I am just looking for my next truck to last me 20 years...

Yes Toyota is having issues. Cams shafts, bad tranny's, but those are less than one half of 1%...the only reason you are hearing about it is because the truck is new. GM, Dodoge and Ford have their problems too, but you don't hear about it until a recall is issued. The oil change is definately a pain in the ass, but once you do it once, it won't take nearly as long (still too long, though). It's a small compromise to have something this powerfull and nice. I think the only thing that the MegaCab has over a CM is a diesel option...

From what I am reading, especially on TundraSolutions, the Camshaft issue has pretty much dried up, but the tranny issues seem to be on the rise. I would spend some time over there reading up on these issues. One word of caution though, TS is 99% die-hard, borderline obsessed Tundra owners and anytime a Tundra owner posts about an issue...any issue, they get accused of being a non-owner troll. But once you get past that, there is good info over there.
The main reason I see the tranny issue as a potentially "real" issue is NOT due to the 20-30 people who have posted their troubles, but moreso due to the report by one of the owners with a failed tranny who was told by his service tech that Toyota is considering some type of recall on the 5.7 Tundra's. Not sure if it's tranny related, but I cannot see what else it would be? Also, several of the Owners said they are waiting for their Tundra to be fixed because the replacement trannys are on backorder. Why would they be on backorder? Seems demand is exceeding supply. This would have me asking questions.
You ain't kidding about TS...a lot of people are A-holes over there. That's why I hate going there, but like you said, there is a lot of good information there.

Yes, the new diesels are having issues with the DPF (diesel particle filters) these are new
on Chevy/Dodge 2007.5's . The DPF fills up then is burned out on a regen process.
Sort of like a catalytic convertor...but not constant. The diesel computers have issues on when and how long to do the regen process...some have been getting clogged and the engine shuts down....The regen process burns the diesel particles at 1200 degrees F.
Ford has had issues with their 6.0 L and 6.4 L diesel engines plus their tranny's...from what I have been reading in their forums. Even one or two reports of the regen process causing grass fires. I have seen a lot of users on the other forums turning in thier Fords
(Found on road dead)
I'm glad you got yours taken care of under the lemon law, I waited to long and had to many miles on mine.
The Toyota dealer was very happy to help me trade my 350 in on a Tundra.
I hope Toyota does come out with a 1 ton diesel. I don't think I will ever go back.
You replaced an F350 with a Tundra? They are not even in the same category. What do you tow/haul with it? Hopefully you were underworking that F350 and not overworking your Tundra. That is like trading a Bulldozer for a Bobcat.
