TRD Wheels

I'm just beginning to look around at Tundras and noticed the sweet wheels that come on the TRD models. Wow! They look great!

I own a TRD Tacoma (my second) and would like to have this option in a new Tundra, if only for these sweet wheels. But, I don't want to sacrifice ride comfort.

My first Tacoma, a '99 TRD 4WD, had to be the most capable off-road vehicle ever created. Off-road, it was like driving a Cadillac, But on the pavement, it was rough! The 2006 TRD 4WD DC I own is much better for daily driving, though I suspect it's not quite up to snuff off-road wise. Which is fine, considering I do as much of this anymore.

But now I'm wondering where this Tundra stands.

Anyone out there with a TRD Tundra who can comment on how this rides compared to the non-TRD version?

I'm thinking Crewmax shortbed 4WD here.

Thank you!

i have the TRD Crewmax 4x4 and yes, there is a stiffer ride... however, their is a fix.

100lbs. that simple.

basically the box tends to bounce at certain frequency on the highway... especially on a concrete one with lines... and for me I notice it on side streets that are rough.. i think the wheels actually come off the ground once in a while.

So, what you can do is add about 100 to 150 lbs into the box. what i plan to do is bolt 2 Elevator weights under the box somewhere so i save box room.

If i have my trailer on, or weight in the box there is no bounce and the ride smooths right out.

I had the same questions and i really like the TRD wheels compared to the standard ones.

go TRD imho.

I just got a TRD, would a camper top have the same effect?
I hanve not noticed the bounce but we only have asphalt roads around here.
The ride is not at all harsh to me [I went from on old 96 Ford Explorer with HD shocks and my husband has a GMC Cargo Van]

I concur...there are a lot of complaints regarding the rides on both TRD and non-TRD equipped Tundras. Adding 100lbs of weight will solve the "jarring" and "bounce" that people are experiencing. Part of the theory is the design of the trapezoidal suspension and the harmonic bounce its creating on concrete highways. Whatever the root cause, the weight (with your own or buying a Shurtraxx will make it ride like a Caddy on and off road

My personal experience: When I put 450 lbs of pavers and pearock, it road more comfortably than it did when unloaded, and I have the non-TRD.
