So I am finally ready to belly up to the table and buy a tundra. I have driven and researched them to death. My non-negotiables are the TRD and bench front seat. Color too, but that should not be a problem.
I have seen TRD's with the front bench seat. One was on ebay a few weeks ago and I should have bought it. They are rare configured like this. So the dealer tells me he can't get the vehicle that way. I said, just order it that way. He said, we can only preference it. I said "preference it". He said I will try. He called and said, I can't get it that way, although a white one is scheduled to be made, but he said not one just like I want. This is where the 08 comes in.
He said he could not get it that way in an 08 either but that the Tundra version (base model) would extended to all models (ext. cab, mega crew) and I can get a bench in it but no TRD.
Toyota highers ups. If you are listening. I am requesting a model you make-not many are made like this- but you do make some. I am a cash buyer and I cannot get it. You advertise the bench seat option in your brochures with an SR5 but you won't make me one.
Ah, hah, good news-maybe. My dealer says it can't be done. I then call Rice Toyota and he looks at his crystal truck ball and says there are no less than 12 of these 08 trucks being made in October with this option. He says wait two weeks and call me back to see what he can sell it to me for.
I have heard their will be more standard features on the 08 models as well as expansion of the Tundra line. I also heard the 4.7 will become a 4.9 or 5.0 with six speed but I am doubting that rumor. Heres a novel idea. This just came to me. How about a bench seat option on an SR5, TRD 4x4. I bet some people would buy them. Heck, I will be the first to belly up for one.
What do you know about the 08 models? I have heard they are making them now but I see 07 being delivered into late October so that leave me to think they are not making them now. When do you think the Toyota web site will change?
From what I hear, the 08's are in production. I've seen VERY few TRD's with bench seat. BTW, why do you want the benchseat? The buckets are much more comfortable and the console is definately nice.

^^^ I'm guessing he wants to be able to fit 2 people in the front row. Other than that, I really don't see why the benchseat is desirable in today's driving world where we each want a seat to hug us.

Actually the bench seat is very bucket like. Also the front is much roomier with the pass through in front of the center seat. There is decent storage beneath and in the center seat, which folds down to form a sort of center console, and you don't have to worry about wearing off that silver paint. Not to mention you can seat 6 if need be.
I want the bench seat because I have four boys and a wife to go with them. At times we like to or have to go in my truck and legally I cannot seat them. My 2000 tundra has the center console and I was able to squeeze four in the rear, but they are too old to do it now. And really, I like the bench setup better. It is basically a bucket seat but you have the option of seating someone in the middle.

Exactly, it's necessity Good luck with getting your Tundra with front benchseat, hopefully some of those dealers will get off their asses and preference exactly what you want.

I ordered my Tundra with the bench. On long trips my wife likes to curl up and sleep in the front seat. We just got back from a long road trip in our 99 Exploder with our goldens and she hated the buckets on a long trip. The DC/EC is usually filled with expensive camping, fishing gear or dogs, and the bed usually has bikes so curling up in the rear is usually out of the question.
Ordering the truck with the bench was my biggest concern, but its a TRUCK and I have not had an issue with my GM bench seat in all the long road trips we have taken in it so time will tell. Wish I could order the truck with both!
8/27 ordered a CM with TRD and bucket seats. 2 weeks ago the dealer said I did not get alocated for an 07 and bumped to an 08'. He says he is keeping the price same, we'll see I doubt it. I wanted to save a few bucks with getting the 07. He is telling me by NOV I will have it. Again I think the guy is smoking me but I will pass any info along.

We have the new ordering guides, at least for our region the front bench appears to only be available on the new Tundra Grade models, everything else is listied as standard bucket and we see no option for the bench seat. I read the product guide, it does not say anything about the bucket being standard on the SR5 and Limited. Either way, the only option I see to change seats os from bench to bucket on the Tundra Grade, we can not change bucket to bench on the SR5 and Limited.
That is what I am being told about the 08 models. No bench in SR5. I am really wanting to know what I can get with the tundra grade. Can you get chrome bumpers. Does it come with the complete guages (tack etc). I am told no TRD with the tundra grade. That is a shame since those who buy a tundra grade would get the most of a TRD. My truck is used for work and is off road weekly.
Do you know when they will update the toyota web site for the 08 models? By the way, my dealer has found an 07 TRD 4x4 with bench seat. It is white and not my color. I was going to go ahead and get it but they dropped the cash back to $1,250 instead of $3,000. The $3,000 remains on the 5.7 liter though. I am gambling this particular model will be around until November when I hope they will up the incentive on this model.
