5.7L rear gear ratio

Why no option on the 5.7L othe than the 4.30? I would be willing to give up a couple thousand lbs of tow capacity for a set of 4.10's and 2mpg more.

Between you and me I don't think you would see any increase in mpg. 6th gear is at about 2000 rpm at 80 mph and when you hit a slight incline it will shift down. Taller gear means more gear hunting in the tranny. It appears to be as good as it gets gearing wise for me.

gear ratio

Thanks. I didn't get it up that fast on the test drive. The gear ratio looked out of place compared to what I am used to seeing in domestic trucks.

So if you put 285's on the truck the tranny is going hunting for gears at 70-80 mph?

A 4:30 gets worse mpg than a 4:10 or 3:73... Usually the higher the number, the better is is geared for torque, low speed applications.

gear ratio

I didn't know how the six speed trans was geared with the 4.30. I was assuming that if the 4.10 was available as an option on the 5.7 it would get 2mpg better. I was suprised when I found out that there was no option for rear end gear ratio. I am used to seeing 3-4 options on domestic trucks.

The 4.30 only gear made me do . I started to skeem on how I could put 4.10's in it.

You can get a 5.7 with a 4.10 rear end...you just can't have the towing package then. Usually the 4.10 with the deletion of the TP comes with the Appearance Package. Not sure how it works with the DC and CM, but the Reg Cabs seem to be quite popular with the AP option.

Well I'm in Yuma, Arizona and I'd rather have 4.30's I'm sure you'd have no problem finding someone to trade in Texas.
