onyx bedliners

Im picking up my truck tomorrow. 2007 5.7L DC 4x4. Traded in the 05 STI. Wife made me, said we need a truck. Anyways, I read the line-x/rino bed liner thread and was just wondering if anyone has used onyx liner? Good/bad or just another name for a line-x/rino liner?

There's a whole bunch of spray on liners out there...Line-X, Ultimate, Rhino, Onyx, Speedliner, CrystaLiner, I could go on and on. Just a word of advice, do you research. I, as well as many others here, prefer Line-X. It's sprayed on with high pressure and is sprayed on hot, so it cures within seconds and doesn't run. Rhino and some other liners use low pressure and its sprayed on cold, resulting in drooping and running, which leave less protection towards the top and can look like crap. I Line-Xed mine and couldn't be happier. I highly recommend them.

OK. They told me the onyx goes on like you explained the line-x. Is $490 over rail (after $50 rebate) expensive or a good price? Do I want over rail or is under rail good enough?

My CM cost me $380 after $50 rebate. Under the rail. Some have paid more, some have paid less. I'm not sure of the market, so I don't know how the prices are determined. Keep in mind that the Line-X does have a lifetime warranty and will be repaired free of charge if its damaged (at any location). Not sure if Onyx offers that, but it's something to look into.

I see no need to do over the rail since you'll have the plastic caps. Under the rail should cost you $25-50 less and would cost you similar to what I paid for mine.

Onyx bed liners are more expensive, Why?

One of the most misunderstood factors about spray on bed liners is that the thickness depends on the applicator. So the price can vary a lot, even between brand name bed liners. Example, a Line-x dealer is Kalispell MT may spray a truck 30mils thick yet another Line-x dealer 50 miles away may spray the correct thickness of 180mils. There is no enforced standard; that is why the price is cheaper from one dealer and more for another.

Onyx is sprayed the same thickness at all Dealerships, 200mils. If a dealer is found to be spraying a bedliner not to spec, he will loose his dealership. So don't go by price, go by references from others. One other point to keep in mind is warranty. Read you warranty form very carefully. When a bed liner company says Lifetime Warranty, what does that mean? Most will cover workmanship ,but will not cover the bed if you damage the bed, even with normal use. So read and ask a lot of questions.
