That thing is BADASS! If they come out with a non-dual form with that diesel, the 5.7 will be for $ale...too bad its just a concept right now (and probably will be for a while since they had problems loading that 8.0L in there...)

the word is 2012 for the diesel. After it comes out, I heard from a toyota guy that a diesel hybrid will be in the worx. upwards of 30mpg!!!

Cool over cab lights... might be driving, fog and running light combined.
Hopefully, the production model will be a tad thinner in the rear.... I'd like to see the rear wheel wells taper off towards the tailgate so that the taillights are flush against the tailgate.

Are those power figures from Toyota (300/600)? Pickuptruck.com has the numbers at 220 hp, 520 ft*lb. 8.0 liter and 1500 pounds. . . .that's a big motor. Surly Hino has a smaller motor that could work for a 1 ton Tundra. Currently, the largest domestic diesel is 6.7 liters (6.6 liter and 6.4 liter as well). All of those are over 340 hp, and over 650 ft*lb.
I find it funny, Toyota says it's keeping the powertrain "all in the family", yet the Allison Transmission it uses is from GM. . . . .

GM owned Allison Transmissions for 90+ years, iirc. . . . I'd say it's a GM transmission, despite them selling Allison this year. . . .
Why not just use the Hindo's medium duty transmission (same place they got the rearend, brakes, and engine)? Just seems odd that they opted for an Allison. . . .

Are you referring to the concept diesel? It doesn't use an Allison, it uses an Eaton 5 speed manual. (still "outside the company" though)
Edmunds IL has the engine rated at 256hp and 745lb-ft.
Jeff
i really dont think anyone would buy this
8.0l six cylinder producing only 300 hp and 600 lb-ft?
thats a giant slow diesel guzzling thing
im sorry...im really disappointed in toyota...thought they would come up with the real deal...a cat diesel or something better

I agree...fewer cylinders = less cost associated with repairs. Unfortunately, the less cylinders, the less power and torque I'm suprised to see a smaller diesel wasn't put in there, but hey, I'll take any diesel that Toyota offers

well...thats not necessarily true...dodge's cummins diesel is a 6 cylinder but produces the same amount of torque and hp as ford's powerstroke and only 10 less lbs-ft than GM's duramax diesels, and produces peak torque at a lower rpm

Good call...I meant to say "usually means less HP/torque", but this is an instance where its not true
