2008 Tundra immobilizer

Does anyone know anything about the engine immobilizer system? Does it meet the FMVSS114 and or CMVSS114 anti theft standards?

The 2008 is the same as the 2007. I've been told some people are trying to get letters from TMC USA that states that it meets the standards. For now, though, if you want a 2008 and live in Canada, you have to buy in Canada

Thing is in Oct I helped bring up a 2008 Tacoma, it had the immobilizer and it's good to go...licensed and on the road up here. Not sure if it got in before RIV added it to the list of inadmissible or what the deal is. Still trying to get info (from Toyota USA and RIV) but no one wants to answer the question.
I know of a guy bringing in an 2008 Tundra next week so we'll see how it goes.

I was looking at the riv website and this document quoted below http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/impor...list/VAFUS.pdf

and it looks like for now you can get a Tundra into Canada with a non-certified immobilizer as long as you can prove to RIV inspectors that is has a immobilizer.

Can anyone confirm this?

Also is this the only requirement to to bring a Tundra into Canada? Is changing the guages to KMS possible or too cost prohibitive?

2. Electronic Immobilizers Installed as Original Equipment but Not Certified to CMVSS 114
Vehicles equipped with such systems will require confirmation of the presence of that system at the time of the RIV inspection. They are
listed as admissible with a special annotation [EIS] regarding the immobilizer. Demonstration of the presence of an electronic
immobilizer can be done through one of the following means:
- Presentation of the completed vehicle purchase agreement showing the vehicle identification number and indicating the presence
of an immobilizer
- Presentation of the vehicle window sticker (Monroney label) showing the vehicle identification number and indicating the presence
of an immobilizer
- A letter from the manufacturer showing the vehicle identification number and indicating the presence of an immobilizer.
- Other type of information present on the vehicle or on the ignition key allowing the positive identification of such a system.

That's how I read the RIV website as well. There are a few 2008's coming in.
I just brought in a 2007 Tundra Crew Max LTD.(made in May of 2007)
All you really need are daytime running lights...the rest is good to go for the inspection. If you buy from the USA get the dealer to put them on before you pick it up/ship it up...way easier and cheaper.
The dealer did mine for free.
There is no need to switch the gauges, the km's are on there already...

Congrats man, I'm in the process of doing the same thing....2007 (May '07 build), just wondering how your process went. Did you have difficulties crossing the border with US and/or CDN customs? Where did you cross over?

I'm very curious because I'm about to bring one over too and I think I did all my homework, but I just want to be sure before I get there. I have some friends that brought some over in the past few months but none were the exact vehicle (tundra) like yours is.

Any advice would be helpful and greatly appreciated.
