Tundras to canada

So I am in the market for a new toyota tundra crew max lmt 4x4 Dark grey, Dark blue, silver or white, like to have the sunroof, dvd and the nav if possible,
Our dollar is doing well as everyone knows and the tundras are way way cheaper in the states than they are here, so I called a dealer in spokanne today, about a 5 hr drive from where I am at, I tell him what I want and he says he cant sell to me because toyota will not let them ship new vehicles to Canada anymore, thats totally outrageous as far as i am concerned, when the US dollar was way higher than ours we shipped more vehicles state side than we new what to do with and the manufactures didnt say a thing but i guess they want to keep the Canadians snowballed in paying 25 percent more for the same vehicle thats only a 5 hr drive away at most.
So sales guy tells me the vehicle has to have been registered in another persons name other than the dealers before it can be exported to Canada.
Gee i wonder if anyone in the spokanne or seatle area would like to make a few bucks buy buying and registering a new truck in there name and driving it 5 hrs to vancouver or kelowna.

I have looked for some used ones with those credentials on craigs list on here and ebay but they are hard to find.

I think the new rule only applies to the 2008's. Canada has some stupid rule about engine immobilizers and the 2008 Tundra (which is the same as the 07 mind you) isn't admissible to Canada. If you can find an 07, you'll be good.

USA

I work on the U.S. northern border and none of the U.S. dealerships are selling new to Canadians. I see no reason, with the two currencies at par, that Toyota Canada shouldn't bring their prices in-line with the U.S. The only thing about the situation that bothers me is when I hear anti-American sentiment from Canadians traveling down for the cheap goods. I guess they can put up with us American war pigs for the cheap gas, vehicles, etc.

Actually you can bring the 08 up here now. Any dealers I have check wont sell new to canadians however. I bought mine down in salt lake city about 2 weeks before the dealers there got told by Toyota not to sell to canadians. A guy I work with ordered an 08 around the same time and was called the day the dealer had a meeting with toyota usa. After a 4 hour meeting he was told that since he had his deposit on a truck that was now on the lot, he would be ok. He's flying down this weekend to pick it up. I found the list of admissible vehicles on the riv.ca website.

Also note that there are many "brokers" near the border that will buy the truck and sell it to you used. You should still be able to save around $10k on a new one, even more if it's loaded.

Well over the past few weeks I have doign allot or research and here is what I ahve come up with.
I called all around seatle and spokanne area, all the dealers there are owned by toyota and are not allowed to sell to Canadians, but I diod find one guy in cordu lane that said he can sell 07s to us up here.
He quoted me 46,000 for a crew max lmt trd with a sunroof and backup camera, 18 inch wheels with dual exhaust, I thought that was pretty good.
My next option quoted to me by another dealer in seatle was I have to go to SE states and the closest one to me that could sell to me is in Oklahoma, So I called there, for the same truck but dvd and nav included she was 45250,
I was just down in Vancouver on the weekend and spent one full day driving around and pricing out the sme truck hoping to find one on this side of the border but the same truck is 54000 here so I just giggled and walked away, I really feel sorry for the sales man that makes his living of commisions and has to feed his family selling toyotas right now as he is the only one really affected by this all and there is nothing he can do but watch another customer walk away and head to the states.
I am still in the market and looking hard, I hope to find one within the next 2 weeks.

It also seems that dealers in the states are more willing to deal, since there economy is brutal right now. Up here they won't budge hardly at all because they know they will sell it. It's a great time to take advantage of nafta and the slumping american economy. If our economy keeps booming like it is and wages keep climbing like they are, over the next few years canadians can really cash in on buying things down there.

Here is the basic problem, Canadian leases that were written three years ago when the exchange rate was different.

Canadian banks and the credit divisions of the car makers would take a bath if residuals suddenly plunged by drastically cutting the prices of new cars and trucks. Who would buy a three year old car for the same price as a new one? So, the carmakers are keeping Canadian prices artificially high and doing everything they can to keep "cheap" US grey market imports out.

Hopefully the Canadian dealers will have no choice but to lower prices. It appears that the 08 US models will soon be permitted back in Canada so that will continue to pressure the Canadian dealers. If the incentives on the 2008 do not get better, I for one, will be engaging a car broker to find one in the US. I am not willing to pay $8000 over what our neighbours to the south are paying....

On December 1, the incentives for Toyota for the month of December are released. It will be interesting to see if Toyota makes an effort to deal with the Canada and US price discrepancy....At least Honda is offering .9% financing on their 2008. What is toyota canada currently offering? 5.9%....way to go toyota, that is really stepping up to the plate....please note the sarcasm......

quick update::

Well it looks like Toyota Canada has again failed to make any attempts whatsoever to address the price discrepancy....The december incentives show no rebates for the 2008 models and a high 5.9% financing.....big surprise...well here is one sale you will not get toyota canada.....I hope others choose to do the same and wait to import from the US......

I just noticed on the toyota canada website that the 08 tundra is a couple grand cheaper than the 07.

Toyota dropped the invoice cost on the 08 about $1600 a month or two ago....a token effort.....now there is only about a $8,000 price difference.....The December incentives were an opportunity to address the imbalance as many of the other manufactures have....Honda/Acura for example has offered .9% financing on all their 08....this brings the effective cost closer to the US price....(assuming one is financing the vehicle) Toyota on the other hand is offering 5.9%....ridiculous and outrageous....Once the immobilizer issue is resolved, let the imports begin and let screw toyota canada.....my advice, stop gouging consumers or watch your sales suffer.....and fix the damn tailgates....you should feel shame toyota...

Considering the price in the US and what some other manufacturers in Canada (like Acura/Honda) are offering on the 2008 models, the $4000 rebate is laughable.......

Savings

The Honda/Acura deal is only if you pay cash for the vehicle.
In my opinion, its better than getting nothing
Toyota is offering 0.9% financing for 36months
3.9 % financing for 48-60 months
and lease 3.9 % up to 48 months, plus Toyota is waiving the 1% GST.
