Question Help - Sirius Factory Install Problem - Memory Loss

Just got my new 2008 CrewMax Tundra. I ordered it with a factory Sirius install, since I already own about 4 other Sirius radios. It is integrated with a factory DVD nav system.

I activated the radio by tuning to channel 255. Had to press Audio and Text to find the 12 digital sirius radio ID. By the way, it is actually split between 2 fields on the display. 8 numbers on the top line and 4 numbers on the bottom. I took the top 8 + bottom 4 and concatenated for the 12 digits. Activated new radio through my account online, and started receiving all the channels.

Anyway, here is my problem. My favorite channel are not staying programmed after vehicle is turned off for an hour or so.

Here is what I am doing. I program my favorite sirius channels onto the 3 banks of channel pages (SAT1, SAT2, SAT3). Everything is fine. However, if I turn the truck off for an hour or so, it looses all the favorite channels I have programmed. All 3 channel pages go back to their default of Channel 184 (weather). I can retune to any of the siruis channels, and reprogram. But again soon as the truck is off for an hour or so, back to all defaults of Channel 184.

If I only turn the truck off for a few minutes and back on, all my Sirius favorites stay programmed. Its like the power backup for the siruis channel banks has some kind of short life battery that only last an hour or so while the truck is off.

Anyone seen this problem or have any ideas? Sounds like a bad unit or bad installation at the factory. Probably will have to take it back to the dealer, but wanted to check here first.

Also, I am having problems with reception dropout on this factory install. I think it is due to them putting the Sirius antenna inside the vehicle around the rear view mirror. I am guessing that depending on which direction you are driving, the top cab of the truck may be blocking reception. I have never had any reception issues here in Central KY with all my own installs. Of course, I have always ran the antenna and put it outside on top of the vehicle. Regardless, I am not too pleased right now with the factory sirius installation. A lot of money and not working to well.

Any suggestions????

Greg

I think I read somewhere about another owner that was having this problem. Take it into the dealer. Hopefully getting a new radio will solve the problem. I've already had my radio replaced (non-JBL). It would stop working intermittently (volume, seek, presets) and sometimes would show stupid little French a's on the display screen. I don't like French

I believe that i am having the same problem as you with regards to reception. (i am not having any problem with it holding presets though, mine holds all presets fine. with that i cannot help.) First some background: I drive a 2008 Camry Hybrid with Nav. The dealer installed Sirius into the integrated system, and uses an antenna near the rear view mirror in the windshield. I live in the Philadelphia area and when i drive down some of the major highways, i get no reception with long blackout periods. There are no trees/skyscrapers/obstructions at these points. Note that i have driven a few other cars with Sirius down these same roads and have no reception problems.

I am 99% sure the interference is coming from power lines and electronic interference. In most cases of these dropouts/blackouts, i see some major power lines in the area. I suspect that in areas that i don't see them, they are nearby or underground.

Solution... here's the rub... don't have one yet. My dealer feels bad that i spent $700 on a system that doesn't work for 50% of my commute and they will take the system out with a refund. (I was surprised at this, i must have a good dealer...) I will then get an aftermarket system that will work better. Though i would rather have the integrated system would work if anyone does have a solution...

Another problem: Do you only get 10 characters of info in the name/artist lines? Can that be fixed?
