USA 2007 V6 tundra MPG

I went looking for a Tacoma today. The wife wants to trade in my 03 xtra cab for a double cab. The price for the Tacoma is almost the same price as the Tundra. Does anyone own a 07 Tundra V-6 and what kind of MPG do you get on it?

Also, if anyone has the 4.7...what kind of MPG are you getting on that?

I do IT consulting, so I need the space more then anything.

Thanks

Edwin

i get a consistent 18.5 mpg with my 07 doublecab with the 4.7. Don't mess with getting a v6, the v8s are a whole different world. Plus, think the both are close in price

If you are going to shoot for a V6 Tundra, I hope you don't want hardly any options...not to mention you can only get the V6 on the Reg Cab and the DC. The DC has room, but I don't think I've seen a V6 DC (although they supposedly make it). Unfortunately, if you are aiming towards the best mileage, you are better off staying with a Taco.

I owned a 2000 Tundra Access Cab 4x2 with the 4.7 V-8 auto tranny, and averaged 17 mpg over five years.

Then I had a 4.0 V-6 Tacoma Access Cab 4x2 auto tranny, and averaged 20 mpg over two years.

I now have a 5.7 V-8 Crewmax auto tranny 4x2, and after eight thousand miles in five months I have averaged 19.4 mpg. Most of it is highway, and over 70 mph. The math is easy, but the important thing to keep in mind is resale value. IMHO not many people would want a used V-6 Tundra. Don't worry, be happy, and get the big motor.

All of the above was achieved with 87 octane and dino oil (just like Toyota recommends).

I can't say that you would be unhappy with the small engine, but just drive them both and see for yourself.

USA mpg

If I can get 19mpg on the 5.7 then there is no question which engine I would get. I am just going over all of the blogs and seeing people getting anywhere from 14mpg to 19 scares me about the V-8. I drive like grandma, so my milage has always been better then average. Not to mention, I won't be hauling more then 200lbs of stuff in the back. Plus the camper shell.

Thanks for all the input.

^^^I hear ya. I have a 07 DC 4X4 with the 5.7, almost ALL highway miles and I get 14.7 miles to the gallon. I'm pretty easy with the gas also, hopefully it will get a little better, it only has 1600 on the odometer...but I was hoping for a little more.

Anyways, buy the truck that is best for you. MPG numbers, IMO, are overrated some times.

Lets say you drive 300 miles per week and gas costs 3.00 per gallon.

So at 14 mpg you are putting 21.43 gallons per week at a cost of $64.29
15 mpg...............................20 ............................................$60.00
16 mpg ..............................18.75............... ........................ $56.25
17 mpg ..............................17.64............... ........................ $52.94
18 mpg ..............................16.66............... ........................ $50.00
19 mpg.............................. 15.79....................................... $47.36
20 mpg.............................. 15........................................... $45.00

So the difference between 15 and 19 is $12.64 per week, 50.56 per month and 606.72 per year. You said you need the room which is really hard to compromise, if you need it, you need it. I don't know your financial situation but for $12.64 per week isnt bad for something you need. Do what is best for you, keep us updated and good luck.

Also dealers seem more apt to negotiate prices on the Tundra than the Tacoma.

07 4.7 double cab with 4500 miles. I've always gotten 15.4 to 15.9 according to the computer reading on the dash, with most of that being city driving.

Hey Edwin,

I have the v6, but I only have a regular cab(2wd). I've been getting 20-21 mpg. I keep it below 70 most of the time. I put 100 miles on it 5 days a week. Probably 70% highway, 30% stop and go. I have 16k on the odometer.

The best I've gotten is 22. I don't have anything to pull so the v6 is plenty for me.

That's not bad at all, considering the weight of the truck and the lower HP!

Please do not take offense when I ask this question.............but, if you will never have more than 200 lbs in the back, why even get a Tundra? A Corolla can carry 200 lbs of stuff in the back and never get less than 25 mpg.

Just a guess, but probably because he wants a pickup truck?

You guys are awesome. That's cool....I have my own "assumptions" as well. But I am patiently waiting to hear from Edwin Tang. It's an honest question I had, and no bashing was implied.
