Drove new off lot and major rumble strip

Hi Guys, so after posting on here for thel ast few weeks and looking like a mad man for a new truck and saying I was going to buy one, I finally picked it up today, its a 2007 crew max lmt 6 speed, nav, with all the goodies and the 20 inch rims, I put the 33s on it today and the leveling kit will go in on thursday of next week.
Anyway nice looking truck, I paid a mint for it and its killing me but such is life, anyway 130kms on it and im driving it home, up a nice steep hill and bammm I hit that rumble strip big time, I was like what the h-ll is that, so I looked here on the site and it seems I just bought myself a brand new 60,000 problem, wow, am I excited about that.
Has anyone really figured out the problem and the fix to that now, or is it a new tranny and converter has to go in, Ill be somewhat upset if thats the case, its about 5 hrs old right now and I cant even look out in the driveway at it with a smile on my face because of this.

Supposedly Toyota found it to be the torque converter. It sucks to have this happen on a brand new vehicle, no matter who manufactured the car, but at least Toyota will take care of you. Try to see if you can get a Platinum warranty out of the deal, but you will have to talk with a regional rep for that...the Toyota helpline won't do jack for you. Good luck

toyota came out with a new torque converter that should fix you problem. also from what i heard .. the part number will not be the same.. since they said it would cost alot of money to change just one number.. so just make sure they put a fairly new TC in it and has not been on the selves for a while

That sucks man. I may be off base, but I'd take the 33's off and hold off on the leveling kit...don't want the dealer saying something stupid like its yur fault. G/L

I see this comment quite often and it always baffles me. Are you implying that other companies do not honor their warranties? I have never had a problem with a warranty issue on any of my GMs, however I must say I have had very few of them.

I'm not sure that's the implication; of the 7 or 8 warranty returns I had with my Ford the dealer was very accommodating.

I had a couple problems with my ZX3 Focus I had, but the dealer always took car of me, even a "balling seat" issue I had at 35k miles. My 2000 Sonoma had an oil pan seal that was installed incorrectly and looked like someone smashed the pan (from what I'd guess to be the car hauler) and they denied me for warranty (keep in mind I bought this truck brand new and it had 5k miles on it). $400 down the drain that I shouldn't have had to pay for. That case left a bad taste in my mouth for GM service.

While I certainly understand your frustration from this incident, which is inexcusable IMO. It was still ONE incident that was dealer-related, not GM related, right? Did you try any other dealers or the local GM rep? If not, you should have. Remember, dealers are independant entities and are not governed by the mfr. But I am sure you already knew this. Is it really fair to write-off GM as having poor service over one bad dealer experience?

You are right, and I did know that they were owned and operated independently of GM. However, I tried contacting GM customer service to report the dealer and see if they would talk to them, but got no where. This one incidence did put a little bit of tarnish on the GM name in my eyes. Mom and dad had several problems with them as well, especially with their Trailblazer that they owned.

I can't say I wouldn't buy a GM again, but I would choose a vehicle from them with care...most likely a "quality" built car/truck like an Escalade or a Corvette

Ok, so heres the scoop on the rumble strip from a canadian dealer.
I took the truck into the shop today and told them about the problem I was having and actually printed off all the other topics from this forum about the rumble strip and took it to the dealer with me when I went.
So I walk in to the dealer and talk to the service manager, he says hes never heard of the rumble strip so I say heres the problem and showed him the print out of all the responses, he says OH I have heard of something similar but its not a big deal and 2 of the mechanics that have the same truck have the same thing happening to them all the time, and if its not a driving hazard or if it doesnt happen every time and all the time all day they werent going to fix it, he then said that all this forum talk is all people from the states and there trucks down there are built with different parts than ours so there fix isnt necassarily going to be the same fix as ours, I said all the trucks are built at the same plant and this is the exact same problem as all the trucks in the states so I am assuming the fix is going to be the exact same, he said call the 1 800 number in the back of the toyota manual and take it up with them, so thats exactly what I did. I also asked him if they have entertained a fix for the problem on there mechanics trucks, he said nope, and being that I just spent 59,000 on this truck I wanted something that doesnt shudder down the road 5 times a day,
I can just imagane the problems I would have had if I would had bought this truck in the states and brought it up here, the dealer would have had every excuse in the book not to fix this problem, this is the biggest thing I hate about buying a new vehicle, you enter into the show room and get treated by some smiling salesman and they take your 60g and then when you have a problem with 400kms on your truck and show up at service they treat you like your a idiot and you have to prove your problem to them when they know dam well there is a problem with the truck before you even bought it.
In my opinion this should be a recall on all 2007 toyotas, this a major problem and we all have gone out there and paid a huge price for a half ton gasser because of the name on it so its time they ponyed up and stood behind what we all paid for, THERE NAME, and THERE SUPPOSED QUALITY,
Supposidly toyota Canada is going to be in contact with me within the next 10 days so well see what they have to say, but at this point Im pretty bummed out about this truck in my driveway

That blows man. Mine has around 8000km with no problems yet. Hopefully it continues that way. This manager seems like a moron. I bought mine in the states. I smoked a pretty big rock on my grill on my way up here which left a chip on it. When I was washing it with the pressure washer I thought it was a bug and got way too close with the stream. This was my own stupidity and caused a bubble on the grill. I had absolutely no problem having the grill replaced at a dealer in Calgary under warranty. I'd try either a different dealer or talk to this jerks boss if I was you. You'd think that proof that other dealers are replacing transmissions for this problem would clue them into what they gotta due.

I hate dealers, I hope your truck is taken care of soon man. This is one of the areas Toyota needs to work on, is service. They just act like dumbasses when you tell them something. I know when I bought my 06 it was after that huge ball joint recall and I wanted to know if that truck was on the list and if it was I wanted it fixed before I picked it...they told me "what recall"?

Amen! Toyota service is totally shitty. I've been trying to get my truck programmed for the alarm and disabling of the seatbelt alarm since I bought the truck and the assholes keep giving me crap about that you can't change those options, even though I've showed them the printout of how to do it on both the Techstream and the older, less fancy unit as well. As matter of fact, I'm at the point where I'm so pissed with them, I try not to go there anymore when I need service or parts. I try to find the days the regional rep is there. He's the one that let me get my radio replaced when it was messing up after service denied my claim the first time!

Can you get me a copy of the "how to" for the dealership? I tried to get them to do it, but they said it couldn't be done (they tried doing it through information console, and then realized I didn't have one ).

I figure that toyota ahas 3 options in my mind, 1 they put a new torque converter in the truck and work on it until it is fixed, 2 if they do not want to do #1, they replace the truck with a 08 model being that I have 400kms on mine and problems already or 3 they rewrite my purchase of sale contract into a lease contract and I will drive this truck like I stole it for 3 years and gladly hand it back to them, because one day when I go to try to sell it to some poor guy and he takes it for a test drive and gets a free body massage from the shaking hes going to ask me to pay him to take the truck of my hands, it wont be worth a dollar.
The one biggest thing thats really killing me is that I have always been a diesel truck owner and I like to buy new ones about 2 yrs, In the past 5 yrs I have owned 3 F350 lariat diesel, 1 gmc slt duramax, 2 dodge laramies, out of all those trucks I had never once seem a problem with any of them before I sold them within 2 yrs, and I was about 1 phone call away from picking up a 08 gmc duramax full load for 53,000 bucks, I bought the wife a 2006 toyota 4 runner limited and like the truck and I really thought toyota had something good on there hands with these new tundras and they had the 0.9 financing for 3 yrs, so I thought I would give it a shot and give one a try and I am stuck in this position.
Well enough said I cant really hack on them to much until I give them a opportunity to fix the problem, and toyota does carry a worthy warranty on there drivetrain so I am sure there is now way with the how bad this shaking is that this problem will outlast the warranty before it totally blows apart and combusts,
And the reason the service manage doesnt care to have a look at the other 2 trucks his mechanics are driving that are doing the same thing is because there leasing them, if you dont own it and can hand it back after you trash on it completely I wouldnt care either, but I own mine and in my opinion 59000 bucks is allot of money to be out of pocket for a gas 1/2 ton truck.
I will update the forum in a few days when toyota Canada calls me and see what they have to say.
Oh by the way, the lift tires and rims are going on today at 9.30am so i will try to get some photos of the truck and post them for all to see
