Exclamation Alarm activation confirmed!

For those of you who were wondering, if you have a V8 and have the key immobilizer with keyless entry, you can have the stock alarm activated instead of paying the ridiculous $200 for. After getting the run-around from my selling dealership, I went to another and had them activate the alarm and disable the passenger seat dinger/buzzer for $30 (it was $60 but I told them that was too high and they knocked it down). Just FYI everyone...

Sucks you had to pay for it. I got mine done on Tuesday morning. I sat in the truck with the tech and we went through every single option that could be changed (and changed all the ones I wanted). Interestingly, the recirculate button activity was not able to be changed.

It does, but at least it got done. I suggested to them to ask new Tundra (and Sequoia) buyers if they want certain setting changed since we the consumer can't do it. Of course, the alarm thing is stupid as hell and Toyota should activate this on all their vehicles! I give them a big thumbs down for that...

IF you have the thick key (not the flimsy one), then you have the immobilizer. But you need the keyless entry and V8 to have the alarm activated.

If the immobilizer means the "chipped" key that is mandatory in Canada, then yes I have it. I've got the 5.7 V8 (is there any other way). Not sure what you mean by "flimsy" key so here's a picture of mine...

That's the correct key.

The flimsy key is exactly what it sounds like. I had one for my "plain jane" Taco with the 4-cylinder (since it didn't have the chipped key). You can flex the rubber on the key towards the top. The key showed above is the chipped key, though, and one of the requirements that you need to have the alarm activated.

Oh I'm a happy camper today!

I went to my local dealership to determine if my Tundra had an alarm and if so, why wasn't it working? The first service rep I spoke to assured me that my truck did NOT have an alarm. Even though my driver's window has a sticker on that says "Toyota Auto Alarm" Go figure.

Well, I just knew this guy was wrong and, as I was armed with the info kindly sent to me by our own mhadden - a huge thank you!!!!!!! - I proved to them that yes, I did have an alarm and that it was switched off and I also discovered that my immobilizer hadn't been switched on either. My alarm and immobilizer now work and a red light flashes on the information panel when I lock my vehicle. Good thing I didn't believe them! They were so choked that they made the adjustments at no cost!

Thanks again mhadden, you made me very happy and "we" jointly trained some Toyota service reps about their own vehicle, LOL!

Cheers,
Carl

Not sure if I have it or not! I have the V-8, Engine immobilizer, Remote keyless entry system (key fob-I assume), but nowhere on my window sticker do I see "auto alarm". I've got the SR5 package....not Limited. So- Do I have this feature or not?

You have an alarm on your truck, it's just not activated.

You should have an alarm but it's likely switched off. You should also have a key controlled engine immobilizer which may be turned off too. Mine isn't a Limited either, it's an 07 TRD and the only diff is yours is a DC and mine's a CrewMax.
