Detroit smoke and mirrors?

I have read several press releases, apparently not carefully, that GM has introduced a 6 spd auto trans for the Silverado. I have seen it mentioned somewhere that Toyota no longer holds that advantage. However, I just learned the 6 spd auto is only available in the Silverado HD and the Silverado continues to offer only a 4 spd. Is this correct?

Correct. The only six speed GM offers in a half ton (that I know of) is in the Sierra Denali, which is a pretty sweet truck. Supposedly the six speed auto is going to find its way into the Silverado/Sierra, but the four speed they use, arcaic as it is, is very strong and has no real problems.

Chevrolet is like the "slow" kid. Easy to make fun of, but usually gets around to doing the right thing!

Chevy made the 6-speed AT finally........actually Alison 1000 made one for GM and it's been in the HD trucks for years. But GM and Ford worked together on a 6-speed if remember right. So currently you can get a 6-speed At with GM's 6.0 V8 in the heavy ass 2500 truck.

If GM was smart they would make the efficient 5.3 V8 with "active fuel management" or "displacement on demand" what ever the F they're calling it now, (the one that shuts down 4 cyls when not needed)...........anyway use that motor with the 6-speed in the lighter 1500 series. That would give enough power to satisfy about 70% of truck owners, and be fuel-sipping enough to brag about it to your buddies.
