Trans update.

Just got my truck back from the dealer this past friday. Put about 350 miles on the truck and not having any problems! They replaced the torque converter again for the second time. Hope this fixes it. If it messes up again im thinking of just taking the $4000 or so hit and trading it in on some other brand.

^^Third time would make it a lemon, you wouldn't have to take the hit. I wouldn't blame you for switching brands, I would. I've never been a huge Dodge fan, but you can get a loaded Ram for 10-12k off MSRP .......

Def check your states laws on that. I know there has to be 30 cumulative days and some other requirements before you can lemon but def check. Don't take a 4k hit if you don't have to.

To be honest, I wouldn't blame you switching to a different OEM. Although I haven't had the "severe" problems that people are seeing, the small stuff is really starting to annoy me. Although I'm not in the position to loose money on my truck, I plan on not buying from Toyota again, but I have alternative motives (BMW)

what exactly is the problem with the transmissions? been hearing there are "problems" but haven't heard what it is exactly?


and my wifes Acura MDX leaked tranny fluid twice from the torque converter and acura replaced the whole tranny and converter... no way in hell they wanted to have to buy back a 40g vehicle with 40k miles on it. i'm suprised toyota is replacing the torque converter twice and not doing the tranny as well. here in az 3 failures of the same part and its a lemon!!!

don't take a hit. get a new truck out of it!!!

NYS lemon law states they can have 4 attempts to fix the same problem. The first time they replaced both trans and converter. The truck ran fine but always had a hesitation. The dealer told me it would because the computer needed to relearn. Well 2500 miles later and it was still hesitating and starting to do other things. It would lurch forward if I came to complete stop too fast with my foot still on the brake. If I would come to a fast stop the immediately go again the engine would rev high then like I was in neutral then slam forward. The dealer said the converter was not locking up or something like that??? Anyways so far no problems. I figure ill hold out till next fall or winter when I have the principal paid down and go get an SUV and buy a trailer. Leaning towards 2009 pilot (depending what it looks like), or Acura RDX.

even without the lemon law.. you can push toyota to buy it back.. and you can get another.. maybe 08 tundra

What small problems are you having? I only have about 1500 miles on mine and so far a great truck.

I would really like to know also. I'm in the market for a new truck and the Tundra fits me best on paper but I want to know if Toyota is really falling in quality. My 05 Tacoma was no where near as good as my 98 Tacoma and I don't want to buy another truck I am going to dislike.

from what i heard.. some of the 07 tundras Torque Converters had thin metal walls.. causing it to do what most are having.. the update Torque Converter was rebuild to have thinker walls and stronger welds for flywheel to bolt up to .. if your 07 had a TC replaced.. the tech/parts guy have to make sure they get a new TC and not one thats been sitting on the shelf for too long (cuz these are the old weak ones)

im sure all the 08s have been fixed

The 2008s still have trans problems. It has been stated here and at other forums many times and there may be more than one issue.
