Love the new style tundra, love every inch of her except

the stupid plastic piece at the top of the grill surround. What is up with it? I don't get it. It's not a fake induction, it's not solid (it's loose), and it serves no purpose. The sequoia doesn't have it. The sequoia is solid all around. Why did Toyota give the new tundra a zit on it's forehead.

Can anyone explain this to me? Anyone do something to make it look better?

I completely agree that it's crap. Pretty much the only way to "make it pretty" is to cover it up with a custom grill (which is in place or goes over top of it), or if you have a color-matched grill, to use plastic filler/bondo and fill it in and repaint. Unfortunately the Sequoia grill doesn't fit the Tundra exact...there will be a gap towards the bottom of the bumper...

I have a feeling that toyota will is planning on doing something with it over the next few years. Not to start and rumors, but every few years they make minor changes.

It covers bolts that hold the top of the grill surround.

Will the Sequoia grill fit on ours? If so, I'd change mine out for a color matched one.

It is just hard for me to imgine such a engineering marvel could be uglied up by two bolts that could not be hidden. Someone dropped the ball, or aftermarket parts are coming. Its like a perfect boob job with no nipple.

To be honest, I don't think anyones tried, but when I measured one at the dealership, it was going to be too short, leaving about a 1 1/2" gap between the top of the bumper and the bottom of the grill...

Yes, that piece does hold bolts in, but Semcoll over at TS weasled a way or found a way to make it so the bolts weren't used from that direction and filled his with plastic filler and re-painted it This post has info on how he filled his.

Don't bother me that much, but here's what lies beneath:

Took a picture when I had it off putting on the bugshield. I bet there are inserts out there on the aftermarket to replace it with.

Had to pop it off when installing the Toyota bugshield. They gave me a small plastic wedge (like a mini spatula) thingy. Some guys have used electrical tape on a flat-tip screwdriver. Start at one end and work slowly across.
