Tailgate fix?

I went to the Mpls Auto Show last night and while there I checked out the Tundra's tailgates. I had heard they "fixed" them by adding a weld bead. Well, they did, all of them had this add'l weld bead. Is this Toyota's answer to this issue? Do they really think this little blob of weld is going to make these tailgates robust? Or is this just so they can say "we addressed the issue and it's been resolved"? The least they could have done was run the bead all the way up the seam, don't you think?

Supposedly, they also added an internal brace to the inside of the tailgate. I have not seen any pictures of this brace. They wouldn't need a solid bead all the way up the tailgate, but it would be better if they at least did several spot welds all the way up.

I just meant along the top edge there where the gap is in that picture. Why not weld that closed? if nothing else, it would keep the salt and other crap out.
