Special Ordered Tundra

Can or can NOT we special order a Tundra? In that, order a Tundra to your specific desired model, options, etc., etc.? I read here where the Toyota dealers can access the build orders, model type, options, colors, etc., and what dealers these finished products are headed to. If that's the case do they access this build date data FIRST (with the intentions of "intercepting" the truck in question) before entering a special order?

Long answer short, yes you can request a truck with certain options and get it, I did.

They don't call it a "special order". They refer to it as a "preference" truck. The dealer is allocated so many trucks each month and Toyota decides how many of each model they get and what features are on the truck. The dealer can access the list of these trucks once they are allocated to the dealerships. What the dealer does, is they trade allocated trucks to get one close to what you want. Or at least they find one and call that dealership to trade a similar truck. So they can do a White 4x4 NAV TRD DC to get a Blue 4x4 TRD DC and then change the smaller options to get what you want. Those options can be installed at the factory or at the port. Or they might add something simple like a bed liner at the dealership. Just because they request options, doesn't mean that you can get those options. They can request the options and then Toyota will tell them yes/no. Some options and option combos aren't allowed by Toyota in different areas. That is why it is called a preferenced truck instead of a special ordered truck.

Thanks much. Sounds complicated though.

It is. LoL.

You'll see more dealers "dealer trade" before they start digging into allocation like Toxarch said they can. It's much easier.
