Toyota Division passenger cars were led by Camry, which posted best-ever March sales of 40,487, an increase of 3.2 percent over the same period last year.
Toyota Division Tundra full-size pickup posted best-ever March sales of 14,311, an increase of 16.8 percent over last March.
Toyota had bigger rebates on their trucks than GM in March( $2500 for Toyota to $2000 for GM)
It wasn't long ago when a Toyota sold around list with no rebate and GM sold at invoice with huge rebates. I just purchsed a Tundra at a price that was incredible, there is no doubt that their new "aggresive" pricing is helping them sell.
^ Both good points! It's still impressive Tundras are selling well when gas prices aren't even close to going down. But as binmack stated........serious discounts can be had! A factory rebate is one thing, but when a dealer matches that plus some....that's when you know they are desperate to move 'em off the lot!

I love my Tundra but last March there were hardly any Tundra available to sell, they had just hit the dealers lots. So I don't think it means that much that sales are higher by 17% this March. There are lot more of them to sell and people have had a whole year to become aware through advertizing, word of mouth, etc. that there is another option in a 1/2 ton pickup vs. the 3 domestic offerings.
Because of the housing market slowdown, and its effect on truck sales, the only good measure is marketshare (or how big of a piece of the Full Size truck market "pie" does each manufacture have).
Full Sized Trucks Segment: Down 15.9% YTD ('08 vs '07)
On a side note, Toyota is on pace to sell 163,000 Tundras this year, or 18.5% under capacity for the Texas plant alone. . . . .I predict larger incentives on the horizon.
Other observations: Lexus is doing terrible (-14.2% YTD), Tacoma sales are off (-13.0% YTD), Rav4 is off (-16.2% YTD), and FJ's are WAY off (-37.6% YTD).

Where's the link to this site for this info? I'm currently looking at a new 09 Corolla, Civic, Lancer or Mazda 3. The Corolla's are still at, or close, to sticker and that's what happened last Feb w/ the Tundra. I may go Mazda or Honda/ Mitsu, if the Corolla don't come down. I'm waiting a while to see what happens, but I can pull the trigger anytime after next week.

I agree but not just for the Tundra. A full sacle blitz will occur this summer IMHO because of gas/economy AND the new Ram/F-150 hit the scene. Toyota will not sell 200K this year however becasue of all the economical problems. Is the Indiana plant in full production now with the Tundra?
^^^New F-150's as well, correct? The new Ram is a decent looking truck, the half tons are going to have the lowest payloads and towing capacity (if the information I read was correct)....we'll see how that flys.

Thanks Engineer, looks like Corolla sells are down 21 to 23%. Hopefully a rebate or something comes up for them. I'd like to get a new 09 Corolla S, but only if they deal.....I refuse to pay close to sticker like I did w/ the Tundra in Feb 07.(actually, I only got about 1K off)

Engineer, you got me a $500 one time reimbursement from Toyota USA! I used your link while Emailing Toyota, and stating a case why they need incentives, rebates or special financing! They actually replied to the Email and gave me a one time reimbursement for the 500 bucks. On top of that, I did an Internet deal and got over 2K off sticker on the 09 Corolla XRS. Then, the day I bought it....the financing rates hit the floor like a Catholic school girls skirt! 2.9% for 60 months....worked out real good, just under 19K for this:
Thanks again!
