Question So close to upgrading to the tundra...negotiations have started your input is welcome

Hey guys,

Im in negotiations on a 2008 4.7l 4 door TRD off road. Sticker is $33,300 with a toyota incentive of 0% for 60 months or cash back $2750

The sales person said that its only on the 4.7 and not on the 5.7 I drove both and loved the power of the 5.7. But the 4.7 is not bad either.

I know I can do better than $30,250 after rebate. With gas priced soaring this summer to record highs. They are giving me what I owe on my 06 tacoma and im kinda ok with that. But I think I want to get more than $17,600 I get to remove all my aftermarket parts except my cap and my BFG at tires.

What do you guys think? If I do this my payments will be the same as they are now. I still owe 4 years on my truck.

Try to get a little more for your truck and have them come down as well. The 4.7 is a decent motor, but the 5.7 is an absolute beast and supposedly gets better gas mileage.

By four door do you mean a DC or a Crewmax?

I called another dealer and they said the 0% or cash back is on the 5.7 and 4.7. My sales person was nice but she did not know jack about trucks.

I was talking about the DC. Im looking into doing better on the prices. She was not offering anything off MSRP other than the rebate. Do you think its possable to get a 5.7L DB cab with the short bed SR5 for under 30k and 0%?

I will never buy another vehicle from a car salesman. I just got an 09 Corolla XRS for $19,486- MSRP $21,494. I did it thru the Internet...configure the truck and on the last page click the button that says "Get dealer quotes". You'll save thousands, get exactly what you want, and won't spend hours haggling. That's my advice. BTW- Toyota's kick ass!!

Here , I pasted my experience from the Corolla site, I hate to type. Read Brother and.........save!

Good things come to those who wait. I was going to get a Corolla S to save some bucks, but I changed my mind and am getting the XRS. Here's the details: XRS, 5spd manual, with the "A" package. A pack has the 6-disc CD changer, mats, cold kit, power package, oh and a moonroof as a bonus, and some other shit I can't remember right now. Of course, it will be Super White. Just like I wanted....actually, more than I wanted, I was going for the S, but you only live once. I drove the XRS today for close to an hour, and some other things have happened that made me go big. Do you guys know about "Internet dealing"? I learned about it on www.Edmunds.com - Go to it, use it....I will never buy a car thru a salesman ever again! Yesterday I decided on the Corolla over all the other cars I've been considering. So last night went to the Toyota website and configured the "S"...like I did a few hundred times. But this time I clicked on the green box "Get dealer Quotes" and filled out the info, gave my cell phone number to contact me. The MSRP came to $19,024. Sent this to 3 dealers in the Columbus area. I got a phone call, after 20 min, about 8pm last night. Got a quote of $17,007. I said, Whoa to myself! I thought that was damned good. Edmonds said people are paying close to sticker for the Corolla's.....obviously it needs updating. Then about an hour later I get an Email from the dealership that is closest to me, and I have history with. Their quote $16,899. The 3rd was $17,130. I was going to jump on anything around $18K, so these numbers floored me. I got crazy, with the intoxication of all this shit over the net and No Haggling! I got nuts and configured a white XRS and it MSRP at $21,494. This morning quotes, $19,800, another at 19,536. I was happy with the 19,536, but I didn't Email the dealership that's closest. I went in after work, test drove their 5 spd XRS, told em to beat it........they did. $19,486. $2K off sticker....I'm good with that, put a down payment, they'll get the car for me. I told em I can wait til June....but they sound confident they can get it alot sooner. Oh- and I can use the $500 off voucher, it's seperate from the dealership, from Corporate. That's a mail in rebate, I linked it in another thread. Plus today they offered new financing. 0%- 36mts, 1.9%-48mts and 2.9-60mts. Maybe the firery Email I sent to ToyotaUSA Sat nite had an impact.....at least I'm claiming It!

I know it's a long post- hope it helps someone out there. The salesmen hate the Internet bids. I've been driving the wife crazy the last couple of weeks, she's just glad to see me order the fk'n thing! I'll post pics of course, when I pick it up. I'll have to wash the Tundra and set em side by side, that'll be a Toyota ad big time! Later

My 2 cents:

1. Don't get the 4.7. The 5.7 has much more power, is more advanced and gets better gas mileage. I believe you will regret getting the 4.7.

2. You can do much better on price, even if you have to play hardball and walk out of a few dealerships. Car dealers are seriously hurting for sales right now, especially on trucks.

3. Remember, once you have your price, you are NOT DONE YET negotiating! The "lie-nance" officer will try to rook you. Watch for add-ons etc.

For an 07 5.7 4x4 non TRD with alloys, sliding rear window and a few extras I paid 26000 less 14k trade-in for my Accord or 12k. This was in CT. On my way out of the sales office they ran out after me, after saying "no way" and did the deal. Then in the "lie-nance" office I had to cross off the usual baloney like "VIN Etching" and "Dealer Off. Prd. Fee" which is baloney.

Repeat after me five times "Salespeople are not your friends."

Lotust, Make sure you go to the Edmunds site, configure your truck and see the MSRP (what they want you at), see the Invoice price (where you want to be, or just under) and the TMV (True market value-what others are paying**not always accurate**) The TMV on my Corolla XRS was at sticker, since it's newly released and that was $21,500 or near to it. The Invoice was $19,700. I paid $214 under invoice. Plus getting a $500 one-time rebate for being a Encore Customer (Tundra). Do the Internet bid, get down around Invoice and get exactly what you ordered, don't settle for options/ colors/ access. you don't want.

It stinks to give up something you really want but 78 months of payments is too much.
