Exhaust question...

I recently bought a 2008 tundra crewmax. I took my truck to a muffler shop to install a dual exhaust flowmaster but when the guy looked under the truck he noticed something he has never seen before. I'm not really truck savvy but he said that it might be a catalytic converter.. And that I might have to take it to the dealer to install dual exhaust. Is this true?? Any help would be appreciated from all of you out there that might know what I'm talking about.

Are your talking about that extra resonator, it comes after the exhaust as part of the tailpipe? If so, they install those to reduce the amount of drone the exhaust gives. It has nothing to do with emissions.

I believe that's what it is. It's located right after the exhaust. Would I have to get another one if I were to add dual exhaust. The guy said he has never seen pipes bent that way and that one part i'm explaining to you. He wasnt sure what it was.

All aftermarket systems do away with the resonators.

if your exhaust shop doesn't know what a resonator is, i would find another exhaust shop.

Yeah, if the guy can't tell the difference between a catalytic converter and a resonator, I wouldn't want him working on my truck. Sounds like he's not very experienced with exhaust. Go to another shop.

I dont think you can buy a cat-back like that. Everyone that I've seen with the true duals, they had it done by an exhaust shop.
