First post and question

Hello all. I have been on this site for about 3 months now. I mostly just enjoy reading everyones posts. I joined TN last night because I finally had a question. I really think it is just because I read too many posts, and I just got a little paranoid.

I own a 2008 Tundra 4x4 Crewmax. In case anyone is curious, I absolutely love it. I am the weirdo that goes out side at night just to stare at it. When I first got it I was walking around it at night, and my neighbor was like "You thinking about getting one of those?" my response "Actually it is mine." So yes I love the truck, and it has been no problems thus far.

I have owned 2 trucks before, but nothing with this kind of power, and that might be the issue, but all of the rumble strip talk made me a little nervous. Most people say that it is when they are going 30-45 they hear it, and I do not have any such problem. My concern is when I am in first gear. If I am at a redlight or stop sign and I hit the accelerator, the whole car will shake. Now I know some one out there is laughing to themselves saying..."that should be a good thing." or "Did you try giving it less gas" The answer is yes and yes, and no it is not the tires peeling out. It is when it is an empty bed, so it might be because the tires are spinning a bit, but it is a very strong vibration.

So I guess the question is is it normal? Is it just because there is so much torque that it does this when it comes from a dead start? As I stated before, it does not have any other issue out of first gear.

Thanks all for your help. Just wanted to make sure I don't need to be concerned.

No I have not. I did find it very annoying when I tried t gun it for the first time and the engine shut off because I hit a bump. I didn't need to be going that fast any way

Its very possible its the traction control, it is very touchy. Works pretty good in the snow (in 2WD obviously). I can't even spin the tires with the TC on.

Indeed! I wish Toyota would come out with a TSB on a reprogram for this...as many of us have stated before, don't pull out into traffic if you even think there is some loose debris (gravel, loose sand, or whatever)...it'll cut power for a second or more and leave you with someone elses vehicle in your ass

I turned off the traction control for a few blocks today, and it did seem a little smoother in first and second gear. Is it in my mind or do you think this is what is causing the sluggish 1st gear and vibration. From reading the posts, I don't think they have come out with a new computer configuration correct? On a side note...I was looking at a few lots with my girlfriend today, and it was in an area that they are doing a lot of construction. It was also pretty hilly. It was a blast going up and down some real muddy steep terain in 4wd. The truck ripped through some nasty stuff. I was very impressed. I have been through a lot of dirt roads, and some mud, but not on any steep inclines and hills before. You got to love it. She had some fun too.

I completely agree. I noticed it when racing (at a track of course). With the TC on, and when the wheels spin, it will turn the truck into a . I understand the safety aspect of it, and it's a good idea. It's just important to remember it when driving, offroading, etc.
