Tire Psi vs mpg

Ok, i notice that the Tires for the Tundra recommend on the door jam and factory setting is at 30psi frt/33psi rear, that seems very low to me and when towing or hauling heavy, the tire requires much more to be capable to hold it's max of 2400 lbs, which isn't much for a truck this capable.

Have any of you 4wd Tundra owners with 5.7 played with tire pressure and got or realized increases in mpg? I think the 30psi is for comfort and maybe to cover ride discomfort, but i could be wrong?

Let me know what you run on your tires and if they helped mpg.

Thanks

Old Truck 02 Superduty Diesel--- Tundra rides better and is bigger inside and gets way better mpg, not to mention uses cheaper regular.

Im trying out higher pressures and always record my gas mileage. I'll let you know the result. Im going with 40psi and I do notice a harsher ride. The other downside is a smaller contact patch, which can degrade dry grip, but is actually a benefit in the rain.

30 PSI is too low

I noticed that too on the door and I felt that was too low. I moved mine up to 37 and the ride seems the same and my MPG went up about one MPG. When it was new, it rode alot harsher than it does now after everything wears in.

I ran 44psi in the rear and 40psi front to make my cross country run, I was carrying household goods packed to the top of the shell and pulling a small 4x8 trailer. Gas milege was decent (about 16mpg) until we hit west TX, when the speed limit went up to 80mph so the mileage suffered some.

I have been in CA for a week, the truck is now empty (same tire pressures as mentioned above) and I haven't acheived any increase mileage. It seems worse than what I was getting in Florida, I am guessing the formulation of CA gas maybe the cause for lower mileage than I've seen before. I'll be dropping the pressures and getting back the ride quality very soon.

All California gas is E10 and that does reduce mileage.

Ca fuel

I knew there was something that wasn't quite right with CA, it's limit of 91 at the pump and that the tye of fuel we get here is not as good as most other states. Would like to hear from others and see if they are regularly getting better mpg with Non-Ca fuels. I'm just glad i'm not paying $5+ for diesel anymore, i save about .90 to .95 per/Gal using Reg 87 and i'm loving that. So even if the truck isn't getting alot better than my old truck at 11mpg, the combined better mpg & fuel costs are very noticeable in the wallet. I can live with 15mpg traveling 75 - 85mph isn't all that bad for a 4wd. My Diesel would have been even lower than 11mpg.

Thanks

I'm still running the stock steel wheels and tires. I forgot the PSI I bumped it up to but it is more than the door jam said too. When I first got the truck the PSI matched what the door said and the front tires were cusping like crazy. In fact quite a few people thought I had flat tires.

I didn't feel a difference in ride quality except for the fact that the truck turned easier and the mileage increased.
