End of lease Strategies

I'm nearing the end of my lease on my 05 Tundra. Was wondering if it would be possible to do any negotiating on an 08 Tundra in this situatioin. I know the local dealer has lots of Tundras and Tacomas sitting around and not many moving off the lot. I know the smart thing to do would be to buy the truck and pay down the debt by about 12k. Any thoughts on this by you guys?

Sure, why not. Ask them to run you some numbers on leasing (or buying) an 08. Then see how much they will give you for a trade-in on your 05, maybe it will be more than what you owe.

Don't do it. After the first week of enthrallment with that new vehicle, reality will settle in and you'll be asking yourself, "why did I do this"? Take some of the money you'll save and treat yourself to a nice vacation. You already have a great truck that has years of service in front of it. Avoid the higher insurance, more fuel costs, and all the "it's a great time to trade" hype you'll go through. Now is the worst time to buy any large vehicle. Wait it out for a few more years, and save a bundle.

or lease a yaris for 4 years and save ~$20000 in gas, insurance, and lease payments... then buy a tundra with the $$$$ you saved driving the yaris.

wife just got a yaris, and I'm envyous of the GM she's getting. pretty decent ride and peppy car too....
