Looking into buying a Tundra...

My parents are selling some of their old vehicles. To have some $ to put down in a used/new truck. To pull a 25ft boat, go 4x4 on the sand to do some fishing, or use to hull things to the dump..... The truck use to pull our boat is a Dodge Diesel 1993 4x4. Probably fish maybe 1-4 times a month, depends on the weather condition and gas prices!

I have my eyes on the newer Tundra.

Wondering if i should wait for the 2009 models (or its already out)

Prefer a double cab, the crew cab is to big!

Our boat dock is like 15minutes drive away, or depends which area you want to take your boat at. Next one is about 30minutes away. There is alot of hills, turns, angle roads etc....

With the Gas prices, its 4.19 for regular in Hawaii!

V8 or a Diesel Truck (40-50gs)

What are the going prices on the double cabs? What engine should i prefer to pull this boat?

Since their is only one Toyota Dealership in this island. Kinda hard for being competitive!

I have a 05 tacoma 2wd, no way my truck can pull this boat out of the loading dock!

Thanks!~

Get the 5.7, if you don't you will regret it. The gas mileage is actually better than the 4.7 V8.

As for prices, check out some used ones. Used truck prices right now are in the toilet.

You'll absolutely love a 5.7 double cab. That's what I have, and it's a blast. I love how the rear seats fold UP (as opposed to in the Crew Max they fold down), which gives a ton of storage space in the cab if you need it (or if you have a Great Dane and a Pit Bull like I do). From what I've read on this and other forums, the 5.7 will pull a lot more than you'll need. There have been a couple posts of "I pulled 20K pounds a few blocks without any problems." So 10K won't even make the motor break a sweat.
