Tundra navigation

I just got a 2007 Tundra with navigation and it does not allow me to put in date while underway. I have to be at a complete stop in order to input anything into it. I asked my local toyota service dept about this and they said that was the way its supposed to work. Can this be right?

Hate to break it to ya

Your service tech was telling the truth about your nav system...it's Toyota's way of keeping you safe on the road by not allowing you to do most things on the nav while going above about 3 miles an hour. It sucks, and I wish in all their smart thinking...that they would have incorperated the sensor that knows when someone is in the passenger seat, to link to the nav, that way at least your passenger could take care of it for you....but know...they didn't think of it that way.

Either embrase it for how it is, or search for someone who has done the mod to allow you to override it, but then it's likely to void your warranty should something then go wrong with the nav.

Hope this helps,
05TRD....

I wondered the same thing!!! WHY not have it set up for the sensor to read when a someone is occupying the passenger seat abd allow them to operate the Nav unit!!!?? Thanks Toyota!! Way to go! NOT!

Why? because you live in America, thats why.

"Uleaded petrol only"

"the objects behind may be closer then they appear"

Blah blah blah....

Do i need to say more? You won`t find any of this crap in Europe, why? because car makers inkl. Toyota expect us to know and understand these things out of common sense.
You have to put up with this shit is not because the industry think that the average american is "hard headed", but because people sue companys over every infraction under the sun claiming "no one told me i shouldn`t do that" or "the manual didnt say so" even tho their common sense should have told them not to, therefore blaming a 3rd party (car maker or wehatever) for their lack of common sense.

So no it is not Toyota`s fault. does that answer your question?

You can override the computer, but it requires a little tech know-how. Consult with Google for an answer.

Check out Coastale Tech they make a lockpick that overrides all that safety junk. I'm think of breaking and get one myself.
