Not that the Silverado is much better....these trucks are getting bigger every time they are redesigned.
I wouldn't tackle the Rubicon trail, but few pickups (or anything with a very high payload) could. Jeep Wrangler, older 4Runners, Tacomas, the Hummer products.....I can't really think of anything else.
What I'm trying to say is that I've been in a dozen 'sticky' situations with my Silverado and it's proven more than adequate despite it's size. Nearly every time I've run into trouble, I've had a trailer hooked to the back. BTW the locking diff, largeish tires, and four wheel drive, the truck pulls through fine. In real world situations, these trucks are fine....maybe not as articulate as a Jeep, but with lockers and smart driving, they do fine.
In fact, I'd rank the Silverado/Sierra, Tundra, and Titan as the best off roaders for full sized trucks. I don't know much about the new Ford and Dodges, but the 2008 models don't have lockers of any kind. The fact they they are as good as the Z71 GM trucks means that they've improved.
With 7" or more of snow is on the ground, I'd trust a Silverado or Tundra without hesitation.
