Adding a tow hitch to a Tundra with the Sport Appearance package

I know it can be done, as my salesman told me it could, but I should have it done aftermarket because I'd save a lot of money over having them do it.

But I have the Tundra with the Sport Appearance package so it removes the ball hitch on the bumper and it didn't come with the tow hitch.

Does anyone know a good price for one and a good place to get one? Online is alright but I'd really prefer a store I can go to to get one, because I'm sure they're heavy to ship.

Also, since I don't have the tow/haul button and no tow package, what kind of towing performance (and limitations) can I expect out of this? I've got the 5.7L V8.

Thanks all

Several options

Try Texas hitch and truck center in San antonio locally, or look online at e-trailer.com. They have custom fit bolt on options from class III to IV.

Don't be afraid to look on line. Sometimes when you compare prices, the on line price even with shipping is comparable. I think e-trailer has free shipping for purchases over $150. They list a class IV/V for $315 that is custom fit, no drill. If you have basic mechanical skills you can do it. I added an e-trailer hitch to my Tacoma, and it was very easy, and fit pefectly.

You should not have any problems towing anything you want with the 5.7 within its and the hitch's tow ratings. Don't worry about not having a tow/haul switch. You may want to use "select" shift to maintain a specific gear if you find the transmission hunting or continually upshifting and downshifting when towing.

Good luck.

I too am looking for a hitch. I have a DC base but it did not come with the hitch. On ebay there are several dealers selling hitches delivered for less than $200. I may have to get one but am hoping to get a factory one if I can. You cannot go factory so this is the best route. Just make sure they will take it back if it does not fit your bumper. You will also need to see if you have the 4 pin jack underneath, mine does as I have the bumper hole but yours may not. you can get a kit for it so you are not out of luck.
If anyone has or knows of a factory hitch, let me know

To Put a hitch

Most after market hitch shops. The kicker is you have to buy the wire harness from toyota. it cost 385.00. I know because i have a 07 sport app. 5.7. The truck does not come wired for any trailer hitch. the tow package is gone. If you need the 7 prong plug you will need the wire harness. The hitch will only be a class three. I could not get anything else when I bought my truck. Good luck
